I just acquired an auto 3.5 TH, parks next to our KJ.
Not much difference in body & trim, biggest difference is that TH still has the
big door pockets in the front doors (TJ has tiny pockets due to new impact beam).
NVH, handling etc would be same as a TJ of the same spec I'd say.

I have a TH Solara that goes like a bat out of hell (for a stock sedan).
I would recommend it over the TE/TF because of the 3.5L engine option (be warned: the 3.5 did not come standard on the TH), and Wheels' reviews at the time said the engine/auto trans pair was very well matched - they actually recommended the 3.5L/auto combination over the manual!! And the door pockets are actually useful in the TH as well (thanks Magnette :)).
If you don't mind a step down in luxury you can sometimes find decent TJ Series II Execs with 120,000 kms for $10-12k - if you can find one with a 5-speed tiptronic auto you'd be larfin', but the 4-speed tippies are nearly as good (IMO). Mine is a 4-speed non-tippy and (touch wood) I haven't had any problems with it at 156,000 kms. Manual is good tho, if you like to give it a bootful from the lights :)
The thing that most annoys me about my TH (and apparently I'm not alone here) is the engine idle - supposedly Mitsu used the wrong type/size engine mounts and the engine seems to idle roughly, particularly if it's been idling for more than about 30 secs. The TJs and TLs I've driven in the past haven't done this, but a mate of mine has a TF and his does it too. I've heard the TH was the worst affected tho. :(
Dunno, but a TH would be a great compromise if you can't afford a TJII and want out of your TS. :)
Hope this helps!

5-speed tippy were only in Veradas, Sports, VRX's and Ralliarts, the rest got 4speed tippys

I would be looking for anything Manual over anything. Eg Id take a 3l Manual over a 3.5 Auto etc. But it all depends on how much you like your manuals.
All the 3rd gen's bar the Ralliarts are pretty comparable in performance really, the 3.5's go Hard but the 3.0's go pretty damn hard as well.
Just look for a 3rd gen with Manual and the lowest possible K's I reckon.

Yup i got killed by a second over the 1/4 by a 3L manual, mines 3.5L auto. But i'd still prefer my car as i'm lazy and tiptronic is kinda fun :).

I have a auto TH V6Si. I love it. Except that it is auto. But engine/body wise, it is a TH sports body kit, but doesn't have the foggies. Comes with the same alloys. Has 6 cd stacker and tinted windows.
It goes well. But yeah, manual would be nicer. I will convert to manual as soon as my auto is completely gone. :)
I can tell you the difference between the 2 engines cause i got a TJ and TH and yes the TJ definatly idels better and the kickdown from anywhere the TJ is quicker but really theres not much in it at all the TJ is only slightly quicker than my TJ you probably wouldnt even notice the differece
