TH auto, lever is very stiff when going from R --> P - gotta really force it in.
Also a little bit stiff at the other end of the scale 2 --> L.

Any clues where to look?

cable/lever/actuator works fine, all the gear selection positions are where they should be

cable looks ok, might try lubing it

might pull out console covers to check the lever connections too

yeah, I have a real problem with getting from R-P sometimes, and also out of P.

I've figured out that if you park on a hill, and let your handbrake go, it slides back a tiny bit kinda sits on a 'gear' and if it has done that it will be hard to get it out of P...dunno if u get what i mean lol

I've never spilt anything ddown there...

Ok, here we go again. I've mentioned this on here many times. Do not just rely on your P
gear to arrest your car if you park on a slope, even if it is only a slight slope. You'll end up
breaking the ratchet and turn it into rat****. Worse still, imagine what damage the little pin
will do to the transmission if it breaks loose into the transmission. Always put your car into
N, apply handbreak, release foot break to let the handbreak take the slack, re-apply foot
break (if needed) and then shift into P.

yeah, thats what i try and avoid most of the time...but sometimes you don't apply the handbrake hard enough on steep slopes and it happens :(

its not a good feeling when u have to RIP it out of P....

What happens when idiots who share your road bump into your car whilst its parked & in 'P'?

Ta for all the replies folks.

Funny thing is that its stiff only going from R to P, not the other way.

I'm afraid I don't know any history on the car before I got it.
Nothing sticky that I can see but.

Will have to pull it apart and see what the go down there.

My car had the same problem, and i had to have the whole trans replaced, mine was shifting like **** from 2-3rd also

The new box is all working sweet, and i now park my car as per Vlad's reccomendation. Who needs park anyway, i just use N
