Just noticed that over the last 6months or so the noise coming from my TJ sport is becoming a real pain. Took a look inside my redback straight through rear muffler to see that the inside is fully rusted with fibreglass packing hanging out.( 3 years old and 50,000km,s ). Less than impressed with the quality/durability of REDBACK mufflers, as it wasnt cheap at around $300 fitted. Just letting other members know to steer clear of this brand!

I was warned away from Redback by the Exhaust Guys I went too. They are at the lower end of quality.

Pretty sure you'll find that the Majority of Members on here will fully back their redback products, as the redback exhaust is usually one of the first upgrade people go with !
maybe you just had a dodgy 1 !

$300 installed 3 years ago is a little dearer than I would expect to pay (I got a full redback cat back supplied for abit over $300 from memory).
At the end of the day, no, they aren't the best mufflers ever manufactured but they are fairly well priced, and do the job most people require of them. As well as being a big improvement over the standard exec muffler. Also - I'm pretty sure they are mild steel....... I wouldn't expect anything mild steel to last more than 5 years in an exhaust application.

As the above has posted its a mild steel job. Dont expect it to last for ever. 3 years sounds about right. Well thats what i would expect on this type of setup. If the rest of it is ok just swap the rusted part out.

When I had parts of my exhaust replaced under the secondhand dealer's warranty, they put a redback muffler on the back. Can't be anything special. *shrug*

alot also depends on how long you drive for where your located, condesation etc, sounds to me like you wanna pay for a small amount for a consumable part of a car, if you don't wanna replace parts like that get a stainless muffler, i can see that you said you only did 50,000k so the car has sat around for a while not much driving in 3 years most car to 20 -30,000k a year, which can contribute towards premature corrosion

Seems like Im wrong then. Dont know how many people who actually replied to this thread have a redback muffler, but in my case, quality sucked. I believe in giving good and bad feedback on products.

I do, and I'm yet to have any quality issues with it in almost a year of being used on 2 different cars now. In my experience - there are good features of the redback muffler which include:
* Nice sound (not too loud)
* Improvement over std exec muffler
* very good value for money (in my opinion)
* ease of fitment (direct bolt up)
Negative features include mild steel constuction which compromises both sound quality and durability.
I never expected it to last a long time, infact my full redback cat back system will be replaced in the next 6 months with a full 3" system. So for my purposes (short term upgrade, didn't want to throw too much money at it) it was a pretty damn good product all round.

Stainless what???
Redback muffler? didn't know they made one  . Is it 2.5" straight thru design, or an "OEM replacement" version??
*edit* - oh, you've got a TP, sorry - I just assumed you were talking about a 3rd gen.

do you do alot of short trips in your car? like short trips to work? cause like the posts have said is only mild steel. if you do a lot of short trips and the exhaust doesn't heat up enough, condensation in the exhaust will rust it out a lot quicker. may not be the case, but i have found the redback system ok.

I also have had the full redback system installed and have had it installed for maybe 6-7months now!!! never had any probz with it at all and keeps my magna sounding tough.
but for 3 years of use what do u expect. maybe if u paid like 750 or more for the system you would expect it to last longer but trust me you got what u paid for.
