alrighty, my car is blowing white smoke

i know blue smoke= oil leak
black smoke= too much fuel

but what is white smoke indicating,

also on another note, my engine sounds weird, is sounds like a disel when ilding, and a screwed up v8 while driving

it is due for service in 300kms, i'm booking it for next week, its the 185 800 km service

so can anyone tell me what does white smoke blowing mean, why there is weird sounds my engine is making, and what to tell my service people to look at on this service

White smoke= water in combustion chamber= not good, usualy blown head gasket, most common worst case scenario would be cracked head.

Either that or you just started it in the morning and there was water in your exhaust system.

How much White Smoke, how thick is the white smoke, does it go away when you drive?

There are alot of possible causes and without further description any of the above answers is potentially correct.

I dont think theres a problem i see lots of new cars in the morning puffing dense white smoke you should only get woried if it chages color to black or blue

how does the car perform? sluggish?, is it misfiring? when you say "sounds like a screwed up V8" it makes me think its missfiring, as we get alot of customers using those words when there cars are missing.

yes i reckon the car has been performing a bit sluggish

well my mum told me my car was blowing white smoke when i left the house, the engine was marginally warm, she said it wasn't a lot but enough to point it out

sound is a chatter sound, bit like a soft contact of metal to metal

Sometimes a car running excessively lean will blow white smoke but you would normally hear it pinging b4 that.

If you reeeeeeealy want lotsa white smoke then straight coolant in the exhaust is the way to go. (which takes us back to what Jake said:shock: )

With those symptoms I'd go with a high probability that either your head is warped and/or corroded or your head gasket has blown. That is of course if the white smoke keeps coming out even when the engine has warmed up.

It is quite common to have steam coming out of the exhaust while the engine and piping is warming up in cold weather due to condensation.

A simple test to see if the head/gasket is stuffed is to take off the radiator cap and run the engine for a while. If large bubbles keep coming out... sorry but you have a problem and you'll only be able to tell if it's gasket or head by taking the lot off.
