I have recently gotten rid of the Aerial off the back of my TE and had it smoothed over flat and I am now searching for alternative way to gain reception for my stereo.
My current thought is to go for a Antenna that is mounted and hidden inside the front passenger side pillar.
I have heard that possibly a car company has put this into their cars, if so can someone point a direction for me.
Has anyone done this procedure before, or something similar.
If anybody knows of any complications that I may encounter if I follow this path would be useful.
I am open to any suggestions that anyone has out there.
I realise my post may be  but please be easy on me, its my 2nd post and am still fairly new to the Magna Genre.

Why on earth would you get rid of the antenna?
Anyway, you could just run a bit of coat hanger wire up the inside of your pillar and then get creative with the old harness!

Come to think of it you could also run a bit of wire around the windscreen! Again getting creative with the coax! I am not 100% sure how you tune antennas for specific frequency ranges but a coil around the wind screen might just do the trick!

Welcome back!:) Did you sort out your rubber dilemma? Do you have pics of your car yet?
I'm wondering why you smoothed over the aerial. I've seen cb and mobile phone aerials mounted on the top centre of the rear windscreen.
Have patience for replies. A lot of the guys get on here during the day.

Ford use a through windscreen antenna in the BAs. Hope this helps.

Dont most modern cars these days have the rear windshield contain an embeded antena? Maybe yiou could look at getting such a thing installed.

Nah, still only a few non euro cars.
skylines have them on the window, and so do s15's

just run a wire which is connected to the aerial plug up the window? lol
we had this discussion at the last cruise down here (cause i pulled mine off ... lol). EGO has one, its like a thing flat aerial that you mount at the top of the rear windscreen.. he said something liek $20 or so from repco (or somehting).
element was looking at some the other week as well, and found some on brash imports... same style at mentioned above. Not very exxy at all.
(i still have my stubble of an aerial sticking out of my boot... iwill get one.. soon)

monaro/gto's had them, basically another demister sort of element at the top of the window.
my mate did a similar thing to his 180sx, was a big job, but he had something glued into the rear window eurothane! not 100% sure exactly what he did but seemed to work fine.

You can buy the horizontal stick-on type that sits under the glass (about $20-25) or you can also get the stick-on "mobile phone" type antennas that stick to the outside with the transducer box inside, these are ones tuned for AM/FM - about $25 from KMart etc.

my old mans soarer has its airel embedded into the rear windscreen.. not that that makes bugger all difference coz the frequences in FM arent the same as here.

Can buy a modulation changer device so that you can use the Soarer's fancy big screen radio. Not very expensive I think.

I would like to thank everyone for their input thus far.
I have decided to try go for an Aerial hidden behind the passenger side pillar or possibly have it run through the roof lining.
A couple have asked why i got rid of the Aerial, when i purchased the car the Aerial had already been snapped off, so instead of buying a replacement I had the hole filled and smoothed.
As I do not wish to have a big metal stick pointing out of my car, it will either radio or no radio.
I have no exact plans of yet at how I am going to accomplish this task but I am hoping for the best.
As to maXwagon sorry no pics, computer Screwed up and i lost all of mine, so when I get everything in order I will put them in with the other readers posts.
Thanx.

My S13 has one in the rear window as well as the one that used to be in the rear 1/4 pannel... i took the 1/4 pannel one out to fit the cb antenna there and ive never had a problem with reception

The entire range of 380's have the aerial embedded in the rear window.

Your car body is a big EMC shield. While you'll still get reception, it won't be as good as an external antenna, or an antenna placed up against something that doesnt act as a shield, eg a window.
Personally I'd go for a small BMW style antenna on the roof....or window antenna

or u could go to a bmw wrecker and find a smashed bmw with one of those shark fin antennas ( the ones on the back of the roof above the rear window) . just wire one of em in.

Oh thats what they are!
Yes I would advise against trying to put an antenna into the pillar of a car, just grab one that goes either ontop (inside) of your windsheild (either) or along the side,

Years ago silicon chip published the details for a balun that allowed you to use your rear demister screen as an antenna - basically coupled the RF energy into the antenna via a pair of powdered iron toroids, and allowed the demister to function as normal.
IIRC it was in a magazine - Silicon chip - electronic projects for cars. Jaycar might still have a copy.
It isn't rocket science, but a demister isn't exactly a perfect antenna either. I did this with a Saab when the auto antenna f'ed up and a replacement was an obscene amount of money.

Raven,
Just wondering how you went about getting the aerial hole smoothed over, did you just go to a panel beaters? And how much did it set you back?
I'm in the same boat as you were, when I got my car the aerial was snapped off...

i must admit i hate the antennae sticking out of my clean rear.
if i could only get it to come up when i listen to the radio that would be good.

Anyone thinking of buying an EBay shark fin antenna to replace their original should check the fine print.

do you REALLY need a radio antena i mean it would be just as cheep to wire in a mp3 player and be done with it which looking tempting because my power arial is stuffed

head over to jaycar. I have not stumbled across it recently but i have seen a stick on antena that is much the same as your demister.
