Hey,

I own a TE Magna which is an automatic. I was turning out of a carpark tonight, accellerating with medium heavyness when the whole front of the car started to jump. It made a big bang klunk noise and then wouldn't go anywhere. I pulled over, stopped the car and then attempted to place the gearstick into the park position, when I did this it made all kinds of klunking noises. A few minutes later I started the car again just to see if anything had changed, While in park it was fine but when I moved the gear lever into drive it made wierd noises. I then put my foot down on the accelerator slowly, the car just revved like the gearbox wasn't even there. I then turned off the ignition. A few minutes later I had a look under the car to see if I had any leaks, there was a huge pile of transmission oil on the groung underneath the gearbox. It looked as though it had just fallen out not just dripped. The RAA had no idea what had happened so I just got it towed back to my place. If the car is in park and you start the engine, its fine, but as soon as you move the gear stick lever it makes all sorts of wierd noises.

If anyone has any idea what could have happened I would greatly appreciate their help.

Regards,
Daniel

I cant really offer anything more than what ive been through..
but that has happened to me twice..

Sounds exactly like me when my transmission went bye bye. I had a TE with around 150 on the clock (and this was the 2nd tranmission in the car when it too died).

Orr, it could be what it was the second time it happened to me, and it was an electrical fault (wires were melting behind the dash). Might pay to get the electricals checked out first to see if its that (have you been playing around with anything?), cause transmissions arent the cheapest, and they had problems trying to find a young 2nd hand one.

Sounds exactly like what happened ot me in my TR, snapped the driveshaft, but really it could be any of those components that link the engine-tranny-wheels. The pool of tranny fluid though tells me it's something inside the box may have fudged up.

Hey mate, if your gearbox is stuffed, theres a guy selling one in the FS section you might be interested in:

Could work out alot cheaper.

try filling up some more atf and see where the leak is from... could be a loose drain cap or something...

the box will make noises if there is not fluid in the box and will not engage gears

try it and see what happens

im gonna have to disagree with everybody and say........get it taken to a tranny place, or Mitsu if you have to and get a professional to have a look...
