after owning my amp for over a year now, i finally tracked down the in-dash controller for it!!

can't wait for it to arrive (good old eBay) so looks like now i'll be losing my ashtray so i can neatly mould it in there, possibly surrounded by one of these:

http://www.clarion.com/au/en/MungoBlobs/92/856/SRK5,1.jpg

5x 3/4” Full Range 4 Ohm Speakers in a Sealed Enclosure with 2x 1” Rear-Mounted Midbass Reinforcement Speakers Ported to the Front of the Enclosure, built in 20WRMS amplifier too!

as both of these are 1/2 din mountable, i should just have to mould a single-din section where the ashtray is and the audio system will finally be complete (hopefully!)

Alpine make a centre speaker very similar to that Clarion unit if your interested.

Saw one on display today at Alberts Car Stereo over here in Perth....

Bah... my HU has Sub level control... no need for that :D

Did I mention my Alpine HU's are over 5 years old?????

but is that actually changing the settings on the amp? or just the signal being sent?

i tracked down the alpine centre speaker:
http://www.alpine.com.au/products/images/normal/SBS-05DC.jpg

* Peak Power Handling : 150 Watts
* RMS Power Rating : 50 Watts
* Sensitivity : (1W/1m): 85dB
* Frequency Response : 150Hz - 30kHz

only issues i can find are:

doesn't have in-built amplifier, single din mount instead of the 1/2 din of the clarion unit...

i guess being a single din could benefit though, as it could fit larger drivers.

any other ideas??

Mine only changes the sub level output of the HU... but that is all you need. If you set your amp gains & EQ's properly in the first place, it then just becomes a 'volume control' for your sub amp. I use it it lower my sub output late at night in residential areas.

So obviously, you set it with the level at max, and then any less you go just lowers the output level into the amp, which means the power going into the speakers is less.

Those remote level controls are dangerous as people can easily set their gains too high, resulting in speaker damage. They are usually a 'full control' system, so it you turn them right up, you turn the gains right up.

Those centre speakers are great, if you haven't used up your dash with 2 HU's like me (main one is MiniDisc/Radio/Changer control, second one is CD player / DSP/EQ/Time align unit)

yeah i agree, most aub amp controls are just the gain control, which is all the H/U has, but i'm a tuning freak and the settings available on the amp are rediculous, so would be much easier to hear the changes made just by sitting in the drivers seat. and i like my stereo bling a bit too! GO GO GADGET CONSOLE!! lol

apparently, the amp remote and clarion centre speaker, are 1/2 din application, but the different in sizes looks a lot more???

if you think it's worth it (with all the tuning extras) then go for it. Just be careful of knocking the knob and frying your subs. I have seen it happen.... I'd have it in the centre console and unplug it when not needed for tuning duties.

Cannot comment on the Clarion speaker, never seen it IRL. I have seen the Alpine, and it is a nice thing. As for the sizing, NFI. Possibly just referring to 1/2 din as the height, not width.
