Just a quick question. Can the timing be altered on my 3.0 to make the most of premium fuel without changing to a Greddy or Uni-chip?

This has been asked before, and I'm all but certain the answer was no.

Simple. No. Unfortunately, there is practically no benefit from running Premium compared to Regular, good though as it means you get decent performance without needing higher octane petrol.

hmmm Chantra's timing belt was off by a tooth or something when he first ran at Heathcote, then he got his timing belt changed and he had it all lined up, now his car is running a tad slower...so mayibe try playing with your timing belt a lil :)

Cant be done dave the 3.0 and 3.5 use a crank angle sensor. Not adjustable to my knowledge. Its been mentioned before as stated above..
Tempted to jump a tooth on the cam belt but cbf ripping it all apart.

Ok. I have been speaking to someone who believes that the timing can be advanced by tricking the ECU and has actually done this! I will keep everyone posted...:D

Just be careful since the 3rd gens dont have a knock sensor and their timing is pretty close to the limit as is.

You realise that's precisely what the piggy-back computers do? :P

Yep! But this will be done without a piggyback. Just tricking the system! So to speak. :D

Wouldn't be the same person who feverishly argued that fuel pressure regulators were the biggest waste of money since non-alcoholic beer was it??

If you had a way of measuring the actual timing, couldn't you adjust it by physically adjusting (move left/right) the crank angle sensor? :)

I've always asked myself the same question

Couldnt you slot the holes mounting the CAS ever so slightly? :P Havent been game tho, don't want to fork out for a new one.
