Hi everyone! Just thought I'd introduce myself to the masses. :)

I usually hang about in the TR forums, but since it's possible that I'll have a 1998 KE Verada in the next week =)

This was explained in the TR forums, but I don't mind typing it all again ;)

I should be getting it for less than 9k, so that's a nice deal. Talked to the dealer, getting $2k for my TR... which was really generous. I had a talk to another yard and they only offered $1500! They had a '99 Magna there for $8,999, but when I saw the Verada I couldn't pass it up.

My partners olds are friends with the car yard owner and since they've pretty much bought all their cars through this guy, he said he'll give us a good deal on it.

So yes, finance is getting organised on Monday, and I'll have an answer by lunch Monday!

Just gotta work out what I'm going to do about my system, because the speakers look decent enough, can anyone comment on the stockies?

Other than that I'm going to transplant my Clarion deck from the TR into this, I'm not so sure about the amps and the sub so for now, I'll just run the 4 speakers off the deck. (4x 50w)

I'm excited! Goodbye TR, hello KE :D

the stock speakers in the magnas/veradas are pretty good. if the deck puts out a good quality of sound u should have no problem leaving it like this for while until finances allow u to change. dont expect earth shattering bass but like i said its a good sound for stockies :)

if u play around with the deck settings u should b able to get a sound ur happy with...

all the best!!

Sweet, thanks for the comments :)

I've currently got a set of Pioneer 6inch 3-ways in the back of the TR, so I should buy another set of cheap 6inchers so I can swap em over for when the exchange takes place!

I don't really care for the fronts, they're shabby 6inch 2-ways, and they don't reproduce the nice trebles that I like.

The weirdest thing about the TR which I won't miss at all is the speakers in the middle column? That completely tripped me out... anywho

Currently have 2 Clarion amps, a V-Amp and another one which I can't remember the name of at the moment -- one driving the speakers and another one just for the sub. Ultimately, I think I'd want to get myself a set of Type-R's (they are the shizzle) and I might look at replacing my 12" Pioneer sub with something else (maybe a quad 9" setup? :D)

For now, all I can do is wait ... and dream. :dancin: And  that finance goes through! ;D

Yup! When we got it it was like ... er, wtf? I had a weird idea of swapping the middle pair so that you've got left and right for driver and passenger, but having a silly 4" in the console and a 6" 2-way in the doors might be a little unbalanced...

I'll have to take pics before the exchange so I can show ya'll :)

Edit: Oh, I've got plans to beef up the exhaust, and bodykit. :D

I was going to mount speakers in the centre column in my TR to avoid putting holes in my door trim. But i couldn't see there being enough room for the magnet so i didn't go through with it.
Congrats on the new car mate, but one thing, if had a dollar for every time i heard "My mate knows the car dealer so i'm getting a top price" i'd be a rich man. Generally car dealers dont care, they just want a sale. My friend got ripped by her own uncle who ran a car yard....Paid $6k for a 85 corrola with rust and 250,000 kms. And the stupid thing is, she just bought her new car off him again . Anyway, so what you're saying is you got the car for $7000 after trade in? If so that's about the right price. Nice work :).

Having speakers in the middle column is the weirdest bloody setup I've seen. Not only that, but you don't get a balanced spatial, either!

Yeah, there was a '99 Magna (that would make it a TJ, TI?!) in another caryard with 141k on it, but when we saw the Verada I was hooked.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to grab some pics of the centre speakers, I'll get around to it ;)

Things are moving in the right direction in regards to the finance ... phone calls are being made, enquiries are being made... should know later today.

Hmm, http://www.redbookasiapacific.com/au/vehicle/vehicles.php?make=MITS&family=PSVERADA&year=19980 claims the 98 Verada is a KF? Now I'm all confused!

I've been offered a Camry Vienta Granade in place of the Verada...
But I can still choose the Verada if I wish.

I'm so confused :(

Go the verada....lol. I haven't seen a camry that does it for me as much as a rada does, but tis your decision mate. What do you like best?

Go the Verada.

I wouldnt mind a white one.

I reckon the white ones look niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!

By the way, how many kilometres on the clock, for the verada? (im pretty sure he hasnt mentioned this yet, unless I missed it)

I have a gunmetal grey verada, but I wish I had a white one.

22-06-2006, 08:54 PM
Well, hm.
The Verada was a pipe dream. The dealer was more or less "looking after it" ... owner came back and decided he'd hang onto it... :(

I had my heart set on it too.. the dealer told me I could take the Vienta and if I saw anything I liked within 3 months I could swap it over ... there could be a possibility of a rada yet.

But not now.

So anyway, I'm the owner of a 1999 Toyota Vienta "Grande" ;-) 180k on the clock, and since I'm not used to a v6, I'm lovin' the power. Full leather seats, electronic controls on the seats, CD player + Tape player, and open up the boot and find there's a 6 disc stacker! Lovin' it.

But I don't know if it's a keeper... Ultimately I want to get behind the wheel of a triple diamond again...

I'll stop whinging now :P

Was the swap over in the contract? I highly doubt seeing a dealer do that...

alarum
23-06-2006, 07:42 AM
I have a signed declaration from the owner of the caryard that says basically if I see something I like (read, Magna TH+, Verada, etc) in his caryard within the next 90 days I can swap it over (AND) he will pay the transfer fee.

This guy is pretty good... I had mentioned that my partner's parents had dealt with him before... ;-)

'sides, I did just sign a finance contract for an unusually large amount of money (well, the largest I've ever had to payback, at least ;-))

Now turns out the 'rada had a bad heart... of which the dealer didn't know about till he sent it to the mechanics to do some things (exhaust, brakes, et al...)

I'm still sore, though :(

My 97 Rada is streets ahead of my dads 05 Camry. Hope something comes in for you in the next few weeks, id hate to be stuck with a 2nd choice car, especially if im going to be paying for it for a period of time.

I agree 100% as well! Car dealers are only out there to move their stock to anyone that wants to buy it, and thats all! No friends in business as they say ;)

Well, well.. speaking to one of his minions, I was inquisitive about what did happen to it...
Turns out he sold it. Now I'm not sure whether the story about the bad engine has any credibility in it...

And now it seems the Toy needs some new shocks.
I'll be speaking to him when he returns from Kiwiland :)

I would stick with the vienta mate, I use to own a verada and there a dog on fuel. You dont see many camry's done up, there is a nice GTP kit you can buy which looks hot.
I had extractors, pod, exhaust, hi flow throttle body on mine and still got rolled of the line by V6 vientas. (THe 98 - 99 models were the quickest)
There built well and drive nice, i think you made a wise choice.
