I bought a 1st gen itrip ages ago, but it was complete crap. I've been using a tape adapter, but I just put in a TL premium headunit, so I can't use my tape adapter any more.
I heard someone say that some of the newer transmitter are much better, anyone had any luck? Any other solutions?
Cheers!

Any chance of an aux input?
If the reception is crap you sould just run a wire from the transmitter on the ipod thingy to the aerial connection on the back of your radio... I think that should work....

if you are electronics savvy and can do brain surgery then buy a kit from D!Ck SM1th Electr.. cost me about $20 few hours, and it can project like 50 meters, good quality too, unlike these lil attach on things.

There's an iPod adaptor out now that's built into a ciggy lighter plug;
its a xtal-locked FM transmitter as well as powering/charging your iPod.
Because its xtal-locked and (assume!) it shares the same ground plane as your
car & radio it should be pretty good.

I use the belkin into an aux input, the fm transmitters are just crap unfortunately. Might be ok on a stock h/u though.

I have a Pioneer HU, and use an adapter that plugs into the changer socket...gives u a 2x RCA input...i then have a 3.5mm to 2 x RCA cable....thats until Pioneer re-release the proper ipod connecter.
As for FM transmitters, ive never found them to be of high quality

I've got a DLO transpod which delivers fairly reasonable sound over the FM frequencies - can tune to any FM band which is an advantage over some of the itrips etc.
I have an FM adaptor for my o2 XDA mini 2.
Works well, sometimes it gets alittle scrappy.
This may sound like a silly question, but if its transmitting from it little "thingo" would my radio be getting the signial from the connection at the rear of the unit (if it can pick up wave from there) or is that join insulated and its pulling the signial from the rear quater where the airel is located?
Hope that makes sence, just seeing if I should go to the trouble to extend wires and move the transmitter to the parcel shelf, or even to the mast via the boot.

Primarily it would pick up the signal from the aerial. The headunit and coax aerial lead are both insulated to stop too much interference from the cars electrics etc.
Some fm transmitters actually plug into the stock aerial itself (like fm transmitted cd players) this is one step better than transmitting through the air as it stops a lot of interference through being hardwired in.
But might be worth a shot if it's causing you hassles ash.

I was wondering about these

they plug into your headunit, so the aux line is comming in at FM quality, but there is no loss of signal. Found this, which looks good (but pricey). Nice to be able to see which songs you want, without looking down for the ipod

Harman Kardon also offer a wired fm transmitter with there system.

yeah have a fm modulator for the old pioneer cd stacker in my car, which is half pulled out...means u can have a cd stacker with any stock stereo :D just make sure u have the room back there behind the headunit for that sort of stuff!
otherwise i'd say if ur HU has rca input, just run a 2xRCA to 3.5mm headphone cord to wherever u have the ipod, drill a hole, hell even mount a socket for it :) then just plug in ur ipod and it should b pretty lossless
from wat i've read, none of the actual HU's that have the ipod control, actually do it well, so RCA could b the way 2 go, b it by the above way or the cords mentioned b4 that r 2xRCA to the changer plug

Then you would lose your aerial connection wouldn't you? Meaning no other radio?

i bought one of those little transmitter things off ebay that you can plug into a cd/md player or whatever, i use to transmit the audio from the house stereo (usually austar) out into the shed, mind you i can still pick up the signal halfway down the street, :D just got to make sure to turn it off at times

Can you override signals, say 100.3 or something?
ok...
the audio that comes out of the 3.5mm jack up the top is complete rubbish. I hate it, it sucks horse balls. The sound that you get out of the dock connector down the bottom though...its pure and untouched by the stupid internal amp/eq's etc etc....
So far I haven't found any places that sell 30-pin ipod dock connectors i can chop up. I even spent 35 bucks on an ipod cable which i ripped apart to find that they snip off the pins they don't use :(
You can get the pin-outs for the ipod dock connectors and from there, u can access the audio signal pins, and use that. the quality is much better.

I completely aggrrr eek, the DAC inside an ipod is crap, its the only thing that made me sell mine. if you can bipass it go for it, please add a new thread if you figure out where you can purchase the plug and do the mod to it so we can actually have real audio quality from this product.

Would you need a preamp to do this though? Might rule out the wired fm transmitter with a stock headunit, if so. I'm going to get one of these things this week and test it out

hey I think i bought that one. Is it one that sais "no winding required" ?
Because i soldered everything and then i had to put in this thing and guess what ? it needed to be winded :doubt:
I stuffed it up heaps.
BTW, if you have a Pioneer deck, you can do an aux input mod for it :)

Doesnt the TL have a stacker Comection on the rear..??
If you must be able to get the module thing that plugs into the stacker plug on the back of the unit.. Ever Brand makes one now..:)

Just bought a TL 'premium' unit off tmc. It doesn't have a stacker plug unfortunately. I'll give this thing a go and let everyone know if its crap or not
