hey all,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me where a good place to buy, but more importantly, get a swaybar installed. I've had a look around and it seems that the whiteline are the most popular (and it must be for a good reason) so I'll probably go with one of them for the front. Though I don't really know where to get them installed?

Thanks alot

is that a strut brace you are talking about? Or am i way off?

I thought front sway bars were underneath the car. Get front and rear swaybars if you can. Best to ask what mechanics peoople use in your states forum.

You can try installing them yourself. But you might need a bit of knowledge. Rear is normally easy to install if your car already has an existing swaybar.
Do a search and you'll find installation guides.

Phillcom Rally are the best for parts. Email them

Strutbrace is the 5 minute job. Across the top of the engine bay between the struts.

Swaybar is harder. Some people have said it took the 2 hours...
Any mechanic or suspension place should be able to do it for you.
Phillcom Rally would be a great place to buy it from. Support a sponser and also get a good deal!

I've just put in a Whiteline 24mm front bar and I can give you the following advice,

Set a side at least 2-3hrs for the job. It involve removal of the front exhaust, longitudinal engine member and lower control arms. Make sure you've researched the job before you commence and know your torque settings upon refitting everything. There is a good thread on this that's only a couple of weeks old.

Best place to buy. Auto shops are a funny bred. There is little consistancy in price so my advice is ring around to as many places as possible. Burson's stock whiteline as do Autobarn (not cheap though) and various other chains.

Not wanting to hijack this thread or anything but is there any gain by installing a strut brace? i know that sway bars give u less body roll when cornering etc but do strut braces do much?

I put a strut brace in a couple months back, and yeah i gained from it. Car felt a bit less roly poly in the front..hard to explain but it made a difference, steering response was a bit quicker.

The order of things do to IMO should go like this:
Rear Sway bar - out of the 4 'bars' it reportedly makes the biggest difference
Strut Brace - Cheap, easy to do yourself and helps
Front Sway bay - hardish to fit yourself, and on a FWD car aparently doesnt give much gain, certainly not the improvement you get from a rear
Rear Strut Brace - Never seen these, I think they occupy boot space and are probably totally pointless on a magna

would probably jsut make the rear end a little more slide happy.

and you can get them. most custom exhaust shops will make one up for you for around 200$$ ish. i know Exhaust Technology in Adelaide will make custom strutbraces for people.

Strut brace works by locking the strut towers together. This reduces the distortion of the front end alignment setting during hard/sharp cornering. Hence, there is less impact dynamic castor/camber settings. (Hard cornering increases positive dynamic camber which is not good for cornering.)

Hope I explained this clearly.

Struts are actually next to your parcel shelf, you cant see them because they are covered by the grey plastic of the parcel shelf. Any custom rear strut brace would then be seen accross your parcel shelf, not exactly a "Stealth" look, but would work the same.
As for whether it's needed, for a fwd, probably not.

was talking to a suspension guy today after getting some work done on one of my 4wds, and got to talking about swaybars, strutbraces etc. he said strut brace is a good upgrade. simple & cheap upgarde for sway bars is putting poly bushes in the factory bars. up to 30% stiffer(he he he.. i said stiffer) than rubber bushes. good upgrade if you didnt have the cash to fork $200 on new bar.

Place to try :-
Straight Torque in Blacktown, Third Avenue from memory close to the railway bridge.
They did a GenII for me some years ago.

Also try Jim Hunter suspension, they move from Auburn to Blacktown about a year ago.

Very helpfull.
