Alright I managed to thoroughly **** my clutch, at first it had dirt, then it fixed itself and now its worn away and slipping, now i just want to know what people have paid to have their clutch plate replaced with a new stock one. My mechanic said it would cost around $400, i think it sounds right but i wanna make sure.

(i could do it myself but im lazy and its rather harder without a car hoist :doubt: :D )

On a 3rd gen, about $500~600 for the clutch, then another $200 on labour.

And apparently there are two different types of clutches you can get for the 3rd gens too (both pull-type) :doubt:

i have a feeling the 2nd gens are the cheaper type of clutch, where 3rd gens start at about 600 plus labour!!

if you want to save $400 in labour

if the clutch is slipping they will want to do a flywheel machine as well

2 days off the road for your car for someone to do your clutch

two car stands- a floor jack- a clutch aligning tool- new clutch kit
gearbox oil - spanners - sockets - and a weekend is all you will need .
gearbox comes out from under neath have a think about it

You need to machine your fly wheel or you void your clutch warranty.. And you would be stupid not to as its only $50 to do..

I removed and fitted box three times on weekend.. its a big job..
Magna buff you make it sould like its as easy as changing the oil..:P

I gave my car to the mechanic and i'll get it back tonight, i would have done it myself except i need it wednesday and this way they can replace the O ring on the drain plug, not a big problem but i dont have a tray to catch the coolant in and i cbf going looking for one. It's costing $400 or less to have the clutch replaced and the O ring is being done for free so i think im happy with them just doing it. O and the other reason im not doing it myself is because i dont have a garage to put my car in so i cant work on it at night and i cant leave my tools out around it at night with the type of people living in my neighbourhood. (Salisbury for those in SA) .

And hopefully tonight my car will be all good and i wont have to worry about it for a while.

BTW the way i know my clutch was slipping was because i took off in 5th   , Slowest take off ever but it wasnt going to stall. :doubt:

thank you sir ego thats a good point
I have done quite a few so dont think about it too much I dont have a hoist
I have a mobile flywheel machine guy nearby that comes to me

Yeah if its a 1st or 2nd gen then I'd do it myself (with an assistant), the 3rd gen....I looked...thoght about it, and then said no to myself, the V6 is a huge engine, space is so much more limited compared to a 4 banger!

[Let's just say it was hell to remove the alternator, and even worse putting it back in]

Oh and this strange pull type clutch scared me away.

Though yes I have seen the 1st/2nd gen clutches so much cheaper, i've seen new ones for $200.

had mine replaced...couldn't be bothered, and with the pull-types, u wanna get someone who knows what they're doin or else it could take u a cpl days or more to get it back.

Cost me 550 for the kit and 400 labour. Had it back in a day. $950 all up. (Daikin (sp?))

So what clutch did you end up getting ? Exedy, RPW, Repco, Mitsu, etc. ?
... and please let us know how it all went.

its a mitsu one, and its bloody brilliant, its smoother than it has ever been before. Although its just a mitsu one, its great, i got a misu one because i dont plan to keep this engine in my car forever and the engine swap i want to do will mean a different gearbox aswell so no need of the clutch then
