Probably been covered before, but so many opinions on this topic. I know everyone has their own "favourite" oil to use, but i've heard good things about Motul oil. I guess i'm just asking what oil is going to be the best in your opinion for my Ralliart? Cost isn't an object (within reason)

I've heard good things about Motul oils too. I personally use Castrol Edge, or if I can't find it, Formula R, 25W-50. But then my engine's a little special. The oil choice is the recommendation of my engine builder. I'm content to trust him lol

Which Motul oil tho? I'm pretty sure there's a few different ones, and what numbers should I be looking for? 10-40w? 25-50w? What should I use?

use 10-40 for the age of your engine mate :) alot thinner. 25-50 is usually used for older cars bro :)

I think he meant in his old car which was a TR he used shell, now in his TJ he wants to know which oil to use.
So I think i'll get some Motul 10-40W. See how that goes. My engine is just on 80ks btw.

I'm currently using Shell helix ultra in mine (10w sumthin). Was a bit worried about it being that it's the first time it had a full synthetic, after running for about 5,000 with a semi synthetic on the last oil change (castrol magnatech), and whatever mitsubishi put in them before that (before I owned the car).
But yeah - she's sweet, no more valve noise (than before) or anything so I can't see why I wouldn't use it again (dependant on any special requirements of my new mods). Mainly only choose it because I couldn't figure out which of the Castrol "Edge" range would be best...... comes in about 6 different 'flavours' lol .
Cars on approx. 72,000km btw.

Was running 20-50W but thats a little thick for my TJ so ive changed it to Castrol Magnatec which is good for the cold weather. I'ts 15-40 i think and the car runs nice on it :)

I ended up just using Castrol Magnatec. $30 for 5L and it's good stuff. Can't beat that.

I use the 10w-40 Magnatec in my DOHC all the time. It's the only oil it behaves with. Anything else and it ticks like a mofo lol

I think Semi Synth.

Shell Helix Ultra 5-40 Fully Synth. No oil consumption between changes (~5000 km). No tappet noise, except one bugger when very cold weather for a couple of minutes. 190 G km on clock.
I used Magnatec in the beginning - no Sir, not any more. Leaves residue on the metal - as it is "meant to" and gets quite thick very soon and affects the revability of the 3.0 L donk. Big difference once I moved to Ultra.

Hidey ho!!!
I've used the Shell Ultra Fully (sik) Synthetic (5W-40) for as long as I've owned "Black Sabbath" (that's what the kids named the car) & never had a problem with it. BUT, I'm going to look into 2 products made by Nulon:
100% Synthetic Engine Oil 10W-40 Hi-Tech Fast Flowing (http://www.nulon.com.au/products.php?productId=syn10w40)
&
100% Synthetic Engine Oil 15W-50 Street & Track (http://www.nulon.com.au/products.php?productId=syn15w50)
I do know they cost a bit more (just over $50 for 5L), but if the life of your engine is important to you, cost should be no object.
If anyone knows of a distributor of these products in the Illawarra it would be greatly appreciated.
Cya!!!

I'd suggest to you all that (If you don't do it already) changing the oil of the vehicle every half service - 5000-7500kms would probably benefit your engine more than spending a heap on the top range of car oils.
As for my car, I change it's oil every 5000-8000km and am using Magnetec for the winter as its a bit thinner than the others. Will probably switch back to Valvoline fully synth for the summer.

Amen to that! I've been doing that as well + a good oil. Just suggesting an alternative.

If ya gonna use Motul use full synth 20w 50 for the Ks that are on your car....the 20 is the start up rating and will give you better protection. Full synth is very expensive ...and sometimes it's just better to change the oil and filter more regularly. Make sure you have an API SG rating!!!
Good Luck:cool:

Amazing how a company like Castrol could design an oil that leaves "residue" on the metal in your engine. Silly duffers dont know what theyre doing. They'll probably go bankrupt that Castrol mob!!!!

I would suggest all to change oil at 5000km, I tried changing at 8000km using full synthetic but the oil is still very dirty and your engine struggles.
