Can anyone tell me if i can bolt the EFI setup (manifold, plunum etc) straight up to an Astron 1 engine? (2.6 Sigma) Or will i have to change the head too? Thanks!

We've converted a GK sigma to EFI using the system from a TN... MSN for details

fyi, Sigma is now a burnout machine!

Aiight... i can get hold of the EFI setup including head etc from a TR Magna, is it just a matter of bolting the gear over?

Yep, you will also need the ECU.

Does the Sigma have enough room between the end of the manifold and the firewall so you can put the air intake ducting there?

Im not actually putting it into a Sigma... the motor is in an L300 4WD Van :)

no, it doesn't... we welded the throttle body to the other side of the plenum and welded shut the other side.

heater is the other thing that doesn't quite work properly either.

head is slightly different to the block... but it will bolt up. if the L300 block is anything like a sigma 2.6 manual block (automatic and manuals had slightly different blocks from memory - but most astron heads fit onto most astron blocks), then all that remains a problem is a coolant channel between the block and head. the head gasket seals this off.

as for the cam, undo the water pump pulley and leave the TR cam in the head.

working out the coolant flow is a ***** though... the car doesn't over heat, but we cant seem to get the heater hot anymore. sorting out piping for the radiator was rather interesting. the thermostat sits next to the firewall... that's in a sigma though.

Ok... now can a 2.6ltr Astron (Sigma) head go onto the Astron 2 engine? (TP magna)
:)

yes they should just check the head gaskets
if they dont you weld the sucker on :bowrofl:
ps where you been cad long time no posts

haha ill do that!!

been petty busy actually.. working two jobs.. saving for a house, fixing my new toy... and tinkerin wif da Magna... and riding... that takes up a huge amount of my time :)

TP head (m4, m5 i assume) is slightly different to sigma head... different compression, cam does not have provisioning for waterpump (fwd), coolant channels may be slightly different - but will work anyways.

depending what year the sigma head is, it may be leaded which wont last long. later model sigmas had the astronII motor instead of the astron motor - meaning they are unleaded.

my suggestion: get a head from a magna stamped M4 (from a TN) or higher if your putting it on a tp block. it works, it fits your block, it's the correct compression, etc etc... m6, m7 have roller rockers and higher compression... they are from a TR/TS.

What is the compression diff between the Astron 1 and 2 heads?
Ive bolted a TP head onto my Astron 1 block, water channels seem ok, mech fuel pump works well. I just have to remove the TP water pump pulley as the sigma engine runs the RWD pump setup.
Ive kept the Sigma rockers and put them on the Magna head, because there adjustable :)

compression is not much different... i think it was a combination of head and pistons that changed the compression.

good to hear that it fits :)
