Thinking about selling my car in August and wanted to know what you think I could get for it;
Late June 2001 Verada Xi (KJ)
143,xxx kms
Kashmir exterior, Beige interior with leather & sunroof
Complete up to date log books with comprehensive service history.
I've looked after it well - voulentarily had the gearbox serviced, brakes machined
New filters and fluids everywhere on a regular basis.
New tyres all round
New KYB Shocks & Lovells Springs
Excellent condition inside and out
All options etc
Will have 11 months rego on it at time of sale
Any ideas on what I could fetch?
Redbook says:
National average price - private sale* $12,900 - $15,500
..But that's never a true indication...
Just trying to work out my budget etc so want to get a slight indication on what I can fetch...
Comments welcome, thanks guys :)

Mileage on the high side for a 5yo car.
Series 2 KJ could barely reach $15k recently, even with only 60,000km. :doubt:

I watch the market all the time and to be honest I think you'll be lucky to get 12 grand. (high kays)
Sure you can put a higher price on it but if you really want to sell you must be realistic.
I would say put 11500 ono and see how you go... (my opinion)

I'd suggest starting off at $13k ono. There will always be the occasional woodduck out there.
From what you've described it sounds like a nice car in EC (am I to believe it's a TJ MYO2, with the better looking S2 wheels?). ONLY concern is high kms (that's a lot for a 5yo car), but you've got full books, new tyres, rego etc, all these being good selling points. Do all the usual things, make sure it's pristine clean when you advertise photos, as well as when you have someone come and inspect it.

Wow resales have taken a real dive in the *** yet again...
It's one of the last series 1's.

I bought this car @ 115,000km for a few reasons over a low km car - the few low km ones I looked at had no service records after the first few, plus this one had already had the timing belt etc replaced so that meant I didn't have to do the major service again.
Oh well I might hang onto it a bit longer than I thought if it's this worthless...

I agree, Magna's have shocking resale value, which is stupid because they are a top quality car! I thought veradas still had pretty good resale value? Especially an Xi. I wouldn't accept anything less than 13-14k for it.

Hang on to it my friend. When I discovered I was only looking at getting around $10,000 for my 2000 TJ sport (top condition) with 96,000km I decided shes staying for a few more years. I was only going to sell to buy something that uses less fuel (mazda 3 etc.) but taking into account the changeover cost, I wasnt going to be saving anything.

I may still sell up we'll see what happens. I won't be needing a daily driven car any longer with my new job coming up so I was going to sink back to the darkside and buy another performance car for the weekends.
I dunno why these cars are so worthless... mines never skipped a beat nor have the 5 my dad's owned which he's driven to over 200k kms (regional sales rep, does lots of kms)
Ah well

I just got a trade in valuation on the 99 altera wagon. $8000 when I was looking at at overpriced AU2 1 tonne tray at $18,990. I walked away, sure the tray was Black with alloys..... but $10,000 change over is asking a little much.

I bought a KW Verada Xi,12/04, 26,000 kms, Grange in colour from City automotive in Brisbane, in the week before Easter this year for the driveaway price of $24,500.The car was advertised for about a week for $23,999, and when you added the stamp duty and rego transfer it was the above plus some change. It has rego til August, and I told them I wanted genuine mats front and rear, which I got(but not Verada ones). Some black paint was peeling off the grille in a couple of places and they replaced that under warranty.
I originally saw the car there @ $27,999 and was actually watching a TW VRX they also had for the same money. I just went away and came back after 2 weeks and the price on both was $25,999(dealer told me it wouldn't get any cheaper, I said I'll wait and see).Sure enough another 2 weeks or so and here they both are @ $23,999.The VRX was advertised as having 13,000ks on the clock and was a white one(2wd). they also had a Fusion and a Zen AWD, both with around 9000 ks at $25,999(both were also TW and were 05 build)
Anyway I agreed to buy the white VRX and said I might as well start it up etc, where it shows its actually got 18,00ks on it.After giving the sales guy a hard time about misleading advertising etc(hoping to get some more off),I had a good look at the Xi and thought that for the same money, I might as well go the sunroof-leather direction etc, especially as it only had 8000 more ks on it. Dealer would not move on the price at all(surprise), so I paid up.
This is my work car and it is a ripper, driven everyday and I have clocked up around 11000 ks since I bought it with no probs at all.Averages around 10.9 to 11 l/100k around town and has plenty of go for this old bloke.
So I reckon I got a great deal.

The best place to pick up an almost-new Magna/Verada has to be the fleet auctions like Pickles http://www.pickles.com.au/auctiontt.html. That's where I picked up my TJ II Advance from, at 6 months old and only 6100km and I only paid $22k. The major issue is you can't take the cars for a test drive before you buy them, but if you're getting a newer car, it probably has manufacturer warranty left.
There are Pickles auctions in Melbourne, Perth, Hobart, Sydney, Canberra, Townsville, Brisbane, Newcastle, Darwin, Dubbo and Alice Springs.

If you were in Perth I'd give you 12.5K for it tomorrow
