Hello all,

I'm looking into purchasing a new headunit in the next month or two before i'm on the road again. Been very interested in getting an in-dash navigation unit that also plays mp3s. After doing much research myself, i am finding it very hard to find such units in Australia.
Here are some examples of what im after;

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/division/demo/0,,2076_310069681,00.html#AVIC-HOME

So, does anyone know where i'd be able to get a hold of these particular units in aus (preferably melbourne), are Aus maps included, will the FM radio work here.

I am not too fused whether it has full sized LCD screen or not (like the VDO unit) but i don't want to spend more than $1500.

Thanks,

have you tried freeway car audion in dandenong? they have a fair bit of indash HU/navagtion systems. couple of months ago i went in they had this really nice Alpin touch screen system but was a bit pricey. dont know the cost though.

like i said $1500, i could go a little higher but i don't want to be broke afterwards.

those eclipse units are nice, i found something on ebay (but its a little too dear) ; http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-06-ECLIPSE-AVN7000-DIN-CD-MP3-DVD-HDD-Navigation_W0QQitemZ280000782907QQcategoryZ79834QQ ssPageNameZWD2VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Like most of these units, they are are overseas and apperently the AM/FM tuners don't work unless i go get them changed over to our frequency band which costs about $400 and also i am never entirely certain that it comes with any maps let alone australian ones.

I don't understand why these units aren't readily availible, i'm pretty sure that they they would be very popular. I'm just sick of having two seperate devices (ie; Pioneer mp3 deck and a portable Navman on the dash).

ok,

i done alot of research last night (wait till the soccer started lol) and i managed to find a unit that is normally pretty dear for $500. And its Australian with the whereis CD!
I know it doesn't do MP3 or have a screen but I have a soundstream EQ with 2 sets of inputs (CD/AUX)
So i will be able to connect my Ipod in there somehow. :D

well in regards to the am/fm bit, fm will work, its the am that doesnt i think.
the eclipse unit i recently bought (cd8445) actually has the option where u can change the step between US/UK/Oceania...the avn units should have the same i wouldve thought?
