Got two quotes for getting a lot done on my TF. 207k major.
Work to be done:
1. Remove and replace front disc rotors and brake pads
2. Check handbrake and adjust or replace cable as required
3. Replace both rocker cover gaskets
4. Replace all spark plugs 3x conv + 3x platinum
4. Replace oil + filter, flush power steer fluid + brake fluid + coolant & refill, good checkover
5. Replace timing belt + cam & crank seals
6. Auto Tranny service - Flush & Refill fluid + filter
Quotes.
1. Mitsubishi Dealer. $1,842.30
2. My preferred mechanic. $1,280-$1390.
Big difference. lol

The $1200 mark doesn't seem too bad, i'm up for mine in the next little while, and expecting that much. However, i don't think u really need to replace your rotors unless they are giving you hassles.

Major services really do hurt the hip pocket, hey! I'm about to get my 100k service done, and I was quoted $788 by my mechanic and that included the belts etc....

yeah, i did as much of the simple stuff as i could, and got the mech to do the rest of it....thing is, the ***er "lost" the timing belt i gave him so i had to get another one  other than that it set me back just under 800 i think.

Yeah usually they can be machined. It's only $60 extra for new rotors, and the old ones are in pretty poor condition, never been machined in 207,000k.. so braking has been excessively poor for a while, lot of whining and such. lol. And so they'll probably be undersize anyway.

Aren't the timing belts $350 a throw?

dont forget the water pump, its best to do that now while they have all the engine pulled apart. and you also might aswell just pay the extra and get all 6 spark plugs as platinum. at least then they wont need to be changed for another 80,000 odd k's :D

about $200-250 i think, but this is the kit that includes the tensioner as well.
You don really need to replace the tensioner unless it's stuffed.
Happy to be corrected if i'm makin this up.:D

Got my timing belt done today @ Streetcraft Automotive - $285 inc belt & fitment. :D
The guy said that he'd never do one of them again at that price because of how much was involved in getting to the timing belt. Seems like $400 is the going price to get them replaced.

I've had my car at the mechanics the last day (still there) getting the timing belt changed.
So far its looking bad, I'm expecting a bill over a grand just for the timing belt, cam seals and all the bearings replaced, auto tensioner, water pump and drivers side CV and numerous missing bolts. It's like double my original budget, i'm not even sure how I'm going to even pay for this yet.

yeah i kinda need to get bearings replaced coz they're squeaking a fair bit. pumps are fine, CVs are clicking a little bit, head gasket needs attention, and engine mounts are a little worn i think....damn i hate cars sometimes :(

yeah i havn't even counted the engine mounts yet, at least the drivers side is gone, but i'm not getting that replaced for a long while, thats the least of my priorities at the moment. Yeah I hate cars, my next car is going to be brand spanking new with new car warranty and a new car smell, no more 2nd hand car for me.

I think my TF's a freak.. all mounts, cooling hoses, water pump, cv's + boots are still original from factory. 207k and 8 yrs old.
Does anyone's 3rd gen V6 use any oil? I'm still in shock cos mine doesnt use any at all. It was driven to full potential frequently when I was in the lapping scene for a couple of years.
i never have problems with services all i have to pay for is the parts and even they are at cost. the joys of having a mechanic for a dad:)

Nice.. would be good to have that luxury. lol. My car's in now. Gaskets done. Timing belt done. Brakes done, all pads were not existant. lol. All discs machined. Turns out an engine mount was absolutely ****ed. $180 for a whole new mount, as they couldnt put a new insert in it.
