I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to audio eqip and have just had an install done of an amp and 12" sub... the amp was attached but the sub is just 'floating' around in the boot... obviously not the best idea... so how would I secure it? Yes installation was done by a 'professional' so do not really understand why it was not secured but it was not me who picked up the car when the installation was done...
do you mean the box just slides around the boot?

I would take it back and ask them to explain it.

Go to Tonkins or somewhere like that and you can buy some strong elastic straps. The have clip as well so the box can be very easily removed. Screw one end to the floor, and the other to the box. Do the same on both sides and it will go nowhere! Cost me $15.
i had that very problem, and i found if i puched my sub box up towards the seat it got jamed in under the shelf, worked really well.

^^^ that works unless you have a good sub and it rattles the crap out of the shelf and boot. Im lucky, mine doesn't move. Secured the carpet down and since the sub weighs over 10kg and its in a 50litre 18mm MDF box with carpet, just sits there.

My guess is that they didnt secure it so you could play around with where you wanted it in your boot. ie, facing forwards, backwards, etc.
Anyhow, try "L" Brakcets or Velcro - works a treat.

Most definately take it back.. nothing p*sses you off more than lazy bastards that you pay to do a job.
mine on the other hand dun move due to weight (2x 12' in a box about 20kg  )
really?? I have 3.4cu ft box, with fluffy stuff in it, and a DD15". I still screwed it down into the boot floor. I'm paranoid :P

mines not bolted down either, but more wedged up behind the rear seat. 2 x12 and the box is pretty heavy.
my box weighs like 27kgs or something without the sub...even though, i bolted it down to a wooden block which in turn is bolted down to the boot floor :)
You can never be safe enough

I dont see how, people put things in their boot everyday, you dont have to tie them down.
I think it's different for a wagon though as anything that can potentially cause harm to the driver must be tied down?

go down to bunnings and and get yourself some velcro. dont get the white or clear ones. get the black ones coz the are super strong. stick it to the sub baxk and place it where you like it to be. its quick and easy to take the sub out if you need extra boot space.

Yeah but thought I heard somewhere that becuase it was a pretty permanent object, it needed to be secured. Oh well! I was prolly wrong!

I have my box down with velcro, it's like $5 and works a treat. Best thing about it, is 'IF' you do need to use the boot, get your spare tyre etc. it's easy to rip off, but when driving around, solid as a rock. i've use 4 peices about 10cm in length. just used the harder side of it, and made it double sided (so i had to throw the fluffy side away) works a treat :)

some nice L brackets will work fine if you dont mind the sight of them or you can get in the box and screw it down from inside.
side note - its only illegal for it not to be bolted down in coupes hatches and such with "open boots" because the can launch into someones head in and accident, i know because i got told it for roady in my 300zx in a sedan there should be no such problem though

Dont bother screwing anything down - unless your really paranoid - just get some velcro! Nothing is easier, and if you dont like the position, you can just change it in a couple of minutes without much hassle at all ;)

lol sorry it does work when you have a good sub, when you have a great sub....oh and 45mm of Xmech. Im sure with only 10mm or so the shelf would be fine. :bowrofl:
eek that sub structure of yours looks so solid though. I doubt it would move anywhere!!
