Hey guys,
I have a feeling that my cat might be stuffed, a few guys off the forums i have spoken to said that my symptons are most likely cat related (one even mentioning a sympton i forgot ot mention that fits).
Car is 2 weeks out of warranty grrrrr so no point there. Just wondering, what are the main symptons of a stuffed cat, and how much are they to replace. Is it worth getting a more freer flowing cat?
The main thing that is happening that i'm getting a really bad rotten egg smell sometimes. Sometimes it's really really strong (like stays in the car for a couple of days) and sometimes you cant smell it it's so weak.
Am i damaging anything or are there any negatives about driving with a stuffed cat? Power and fuel economy dont seem to be affected.

perhaps you over fed it. im still wondering why a cat would have a warranty?

Im not expert but the cat gets rid of all the noxious toxic gasses no? So maybe if it is stuffed, the 'rotten eggs' you smelling are actually poisonus fumes?

and you better fix it quick coz if your car is giving out bad fumes and for some reason u got an EPA done you gat a massive spank fine. get a high flow cat. think they are like 200 odd bucks

Usually stiff poars, stiff body, glass eyes. Maybe consult someone who specialises in taxidermy.

Mrs. reckons its my exhaust lol, not a chance :P.
I guess it's something i'll have to think about doing soon. Will probably wait until its a constant occurance.
Dad reckons it could just be because i first noticed it REALLY bad when i had just filled my tank and that overfilling the tank can have the same effect? But yeh, will see how it goes :).

Your Mrs is right the cat is part of the exhaust system :P My cats gone too if and i doubt it will happen but if you do get an EPA check all you need to do is play dumb. I got quoted $450 to replace it so i dunno could be a rip off but thought i might tell you.

Edit: Oh wait i get the joke..... damn i can be slow sometimes disregard the first sentence...

if your cat is stuffed, you will hear rattling noises from the Cat itself (honeycomb pieces).... and somtimes the smell...

Hmmm definitely haven't heard any noises, maybe my cat is just on its way and not yet stuffed.

ur a retard jelly lol

leigh you can go down to a exhaust place and they will check to see if your cat is gone but some places arnt hapy enough to let you go and will tell you to change cat.

funny thing is that i noticed mine smells pretty bad to. when i reverse park i normally open my door and stick my hear out and did that 2day and ye smell wasnt good. got a friend working at Rowville exhaust so will go to him and get it checked out.

Hey maddog,

I'll be changing my cat to a high flow 2.5" magnaflow soon

So if the problem is your cat, i can give you my stock one for a small price.
There is nothing wrong with it that I know of.. (no rotten egg smell)

Thats if you can wait a 2-4 weeks.

Meow to the might!!!

Is it really worth buying a 2nd hand cat though?
If we're talking SFA then i might be interested :).

Well I suppose if its gone a long way its not worth it as hte catalyst would be as depleted as yours. But a replacement standard one would have to be $200.

mitsu did have improved catalytic convertors to stop the rotten egg gas smell, improved the " wash coat" whatever that meant?? it does stop the smell, but at 1000+ bucks for a genuine unit, id live with the smell, or get an aftermarket job! having a foul smell doesnt neccessarily mean the cat is gone.. if it was blocked, u'd know about it quickly!

I got a standard cat if you need one dude. I have tried and extremely hi flow cat. Its got two flanges on the end of a piece of 2 1/4 piping. Not Epa friendly I know but the exhaust note is heaps different and she smells wicked on extreme 100 octane:D

Thanks for the offers guys, ill keep them in mind :D.
Problem is i dont know if my cat is stuffed, or the exhaust is just abit smelly. It hasn't been anywhere near as bad as a few weeks ago lately, can only just get a faint smell of it.
