Hey guys,
Get my new splits very soon! Just wondering where i should mount them. I'm thinking of getting some VRX tweeter pods for the tweeters, woofer obviously in the door, but where to mount the crossover has me stumped the most. I want to mount it somewhere that isn't in an obvious position but still easily accessible. Where have you guys mounted yours?
I was thinking maybe on top of the half map pocket bit on TJII's where it cuts off half the map pocket.

If you use the tweeter pods and mount the crossovers in the door, you will only have to run 1 pair of wires through the cable loom. If you mount the crossover in the footwell or something, you will need to run 2 pairs of cables. Not a big issue.
Crossover can get wet in the doors as well.
Have a think about mounting the tweets in the kick panels...
I used heavy duty double sided sticky tape and stuck the LH crossover high up in the passanger footwell where it cant get kicked. My other one I stuck behind the fuse box on the drivers side, fitted perfectly. The tape also provides a cushioning sort or mount to remove any low frequency shocks that could damage the crossovers.

Hey yeh i didn't realise that was a benefit of mounting it in the door, would be heaps easier to wire up. Also it wouldn't be IN THE DOOR, more on top of the door trim, so water wouldn't be a problem.
Is stock speaker wiring going to be able to handle 100wrms? It's running my 40wrms pioneers atm without any troubles.

i mounted the crossovers in my te where the door armrest is.... when you remove the panel there is just enough room for it to be zip tied in. and it should be out of waters way i'd assume as mine were there for a couple years and never broke down... lol
ill have to try and find a pic of where i mounted the tweeters, its hard to explain. its that little plastic bit where when you wind down the window its the only thing sticking up. that bit just pulls off and you can screw on the tweeter there. :D

yeh you're talking about the black plastic bit, well you can actually get a tweeter pod from a VRX that clips in there, i'll try and find a pic.

yeah, cool! we're talking about the same bit :D lol
why spend money on making it look all pro though when you can dodge it up yourself! lol

They're only $16 a pair apparently from mitsubishi. Will see how i go, i dont even know if my tweeters will fit (apparently the pod is kinda small). So i may just end up doing what you did but making sure the tweeters are aimed at the opposite side of the car.

I ran new wires anyway, 16guage Stinger, but Im just fussy and had money to spend. But unless you are planning on fully deadening your doors and acoustic tiles and MDF or fibreglass baffles, you will never be able to pump 100W into you doors without a huge horrible noise. The factory baffles are good to about 50-60Wrms before they start making a few noises.
My point... if you want 100Wrms into your splits, youd better start thinking of more money, and then you may as well do the speakers cabling as well!
If they dont fit tweeter pod, I recommend the a piller or the kick panels. both are easy and both sound good. I actually recon they are both better than the tweeter pod.
maybe put the crossovers in the boot somewhere. it will mean more speaker cable, but cable doesnt cost much

Hmmm then i think i'll use stock speaker wire and see how it goes.
Do you loose quality having the crossover so far away from the speakers? A good idea though (except i'd have to run more cable through the door grommet :P).
I think i will go with that black thingy one way or another :).

You need to check what size your tweeters are, because i know mine, and many ive seen, wont actually fit in those tweeter pods for the vrx/verada. i have my tweeters in where my mids were, they're the little circles just on the top of your dash, they pop out with a flat head screw driver. as for crossovers, mine are behind the dash, fine for now, but i am thinking of moving them, i was going to mount then under the dash and behind the carpet, just cut the carpet and make a little cover thing for them so you can't see them if you're just walkign past... i park at questionable places, so i dont liek ppl thinking i have anyhting of value in the car :P

Yeh that was the other option i was thinking of, have seen and heard it and it sounds alright.

It depends on what speakers you are using i have type r and i have to remove the black mesh and really sqeeze mine in you have to be damn carefull or you will break the clip and once that is broken then it's FUXORED and you need a new one
