This is bout my 4th post about something wrong with my car (TR 4cyl), but at least each one is getting fixed now that ive got the time.

Now im not sure if theirs much that can be done about this one.

All my gears are fine, going into D and through the gears, but sometimes when I put it into reverse its like its in N for a couple of seconds then grabs real hard. Im sure you all know what im talking about.

Found something in the book called the neutral-reverse control valve, it says it prevents harsh engagement when its being changed from N/P into R. Could possibly be the culprit?

Anyone had experience with this problem and fixing it?

It's simply the age of the box I reckon, my cars now done 290,000 and to keep the Auto fresh I get the transmission flushed often, also they check the bands and adjust if needed.

I had often put the car into reverse wherever I was or starting the car to go out of the drive way and it use to give a hard jolt, same problem ??

This went away after my last trans flush

yes russian, thats the exact problem im having.
Will give it a flush and hopes this fixes the problem.

Do I just change the fluid by removing the drain plugs and topping up with new oil, or do I need to do something to "flush" the system?

Magna bluff, i was testing tonight and it only happens sometimes, regardless of whether its hot or cold. Would adjusting the kick down band make any difference?
Also do I need those special tools it states in the workshop manual?

Do a search saves it being typed another thousand times

Click Search above - click the arrow so a drop down box comes ^^

Type in something like "Trans flush" "Transmission flush"

Then use Ctrl to select the sections on the right eg: 2nd gen forum & Tech Torque will have heaps of info.

Good luck, also drive with A/T and O/D buttons off
