Hey all, today was was walking around SuperCheap, and show some Aluminium mesh *1200mm X 200mm* for $40. As I've always wanted to try meshing the front grill, I attempted it.

Now, I have a TF, the Grill is in one piece, so I had to cut two mesh out instead of the TH grill where i believe you can removed the centre piece and then all you have is one Big mesh. Anyway, Super Cheap only had gloss red left on sale, and i wanted white or silver, but anyhow i bought it and spray it with silver, but i didn't completely spray it silver, only sprayed it from one angle, so depending on whether you look at it from above or below, you will see silver or gloss red kinda colour, i thought that was cool, so kept it like that.

Cost:
$39.95 for mesh 1200x200
$2.00 for 2 cans of coke while working in the sun.
$3.00 for silver spray can.

1hour of my time.
no cuts on hand but 1 blister from gripping onto the side cutter too hard.

Here are the pics:

I think you've done a good job of the meshing. Is the mesh just sitting infront of the vertical bits of the grill or are they removed? I think the silver works well with the white car. Don't know if it would look good on another colour.

Yes, the mesh is in between the gray/silver grill cover and the black backing with diagonal fins, I just moulded it in there, fitting it was not too hard, and gaps are not noticable from outside anyway. I did not cut those diagonal fins because it would make it much harder to clip it in place.

I don't know if this will restrict air flow into the radiator though... so ...

I'm a bit skeptical over the whole pink looking aura it gives me... I would seriously consider spraying it until theres no red visible.

Yeah, i know what you mean, Ressurector, The pink / rusty look is starting to get to me abit... I am planning to do two things,

1) Neon behind the grill
2) spray paint it black or completely silver.

what you think?

the guy i bought my wheels off last week was taking his light blue TH to the dealers and they told him they didnt want his meshed grille, and so he just gave it to me as he was otherwise gunna throw it away!
so he made his grille stock again and gave me the perfectly cut-to-size chrome mesh inserts!
My TE is white, i very much recommend colour coding the surrounds of the grille white, and using chrome mesh, looks bloody nice!
i should probably have pics by tonight 8)

car looks mad...i luv the evo wings without that top bar...

id say paint it all silver or white...or get new mesh...the darker colour makes it look 'dirty'. looks good thow!

dont use a neon...not a good look these 'neons'...just a cheap sorta effect

i would paint it as it will give it a nice clean look aswell as tying in to the rest off the car . those evo wings look go with that top bar missing and it siuts the car better that way

Has anyone actually attempted to mesh the bottom bits (next to where the fog/driving lights sit) ?

I'd be intrested to see it

I attempted..... didnt work tho :( The thing is there is nothing to mount the mesh to and if you put it behind the bar it is too far back :(

Hey man, that looks great, gives a classy feel to the vehicle. Might look into doing something like that as well.

Nick - PICS! :)

I'm going to do this when i get the front bumper re sprayed, I don;t really care if I have to make some mounting brackets for it, I just think, with the TH grill I've got now, it looks strange with the meash type grill and the slats still at the bottom, IMO

Yeah I think I'm going to try and sink it back to the same level as the TH front grill, and I'm painting mine black (not a big fan of chrome and silver)

Looks like we'll know whos from AMC on the road from now, just by the Meshed grills everyone's going to put onto their cars. :D

It'll be good !

oh yeah, does anyone know how to make our tri diamonds on the grill luminous? eg. put transparent red diamonds in and have LEDs behind them, have anyone tried that yet? I've been meaning to try it, but haven't been around to it... it doesn't look too hard as long as the circuit is right.

Grecy

I think the transparent red diamonds will be the hardest part.

I guess you could "pull" out what's already there.. drill some holes all the way through the grey plastic for the leds to sit in. Then you'd have to get some red plastic of some kind and try to but it to fit.. could be tricky.

No it's metal and it's painted black it's called perforated metal.

I got it from a metal works in Braeside right here in Melbourne
