hey all,

I've had a good search for info on these but unfortunely the only responses I could find confused me

Before I go and install a Hi flow TB I thought I'd make some enquiries into the added "performance" that I'll get from it. I know that it'd won't give me any real power increases but will it give me any better response times?

Plus are there any drawbacks from putting it in?

Thanks in advance

No drawbacks mate. Just put it in. You will get better throttle response, as the air moves through the TB with less disturbance and resistance. I have one too, and specially when first stepping on the accelerator, you can feel the difference.

nice, is there any better brands than the others or are they all the same?

Plus do places like midas do it? or just more specialist mechanics?

If you are talking about a "high flow" throttle body, this is a throttle body with a larger internal diameter than stock. This can increase engine power. You will need to search the threads to see if anyone is still making them. There were some people making them by boring out a stock TB and replacing the butterfly with a larger one. I can't recall anyone making a bolt on aftermarket unit.

If you are talking about a "flowed" throttle body, this is a stock TB, with stock butterfly, that has had the sharp edges, around the butterfly opening, smoothed to reduce air turbulence and increase air flow at smaller throttle opening angle. This results in a more responsive throttle feel, however, it does not increase engine power. This modification has been performed by numerous forums members. I would not let a Midas technician perform this work unless I was very sure of their "fine" engineering work, and even then I would worry. It would be more in the line of work of a carburetor specialists (if they still exist).

There is no performance increase from these throttle bodies. The increase you will notice is the throttle becomes more sensitive.

It's a good mod. Once u've learnt to feather the TB - cos it comes more responsive on small openings - u'll notice small decrease in fuel consumption. I did. Just took me few weeks to learn not to over-accelerate, but keep it steady.
