take everything off. tichen all screws and nuts, sound deadend everything.
it's going to be almost impossible to eliminate all rattles, but sound deadening is a good way to get started :)

I know how you feel. I hate finding screws and bolts that you cant find where they came from. Most of the things that start rattling for eg. door trims, i will take the door trim off, find out what has fallen off or worked its way loose, and either tighten it or remove it completly.
If you have the money sound deadening is awesome but i dont so i use a lot of foam aswell. This helps for when you have the metal on metal type vibrations. Its also light and wont effect your fuel economy.

Tighten bolts... use a bit of locktight to keep em tight.
Deadener, foam, etc to stop panels/number plate

at autobarn the is sound deading material i think it was about 3m by 60cm or something like that. and there is a spray (to get to those hard to reach places).
Now they suggested to me to remove all the carpet from my boot put in place all this very thin insulation stuff, spray the tough spots then put everything back together. They said it was gonna be sweet as, however i have my doubts

Every time something rattles loose, take it off and spread a thin layer of silicon between it and what it bolts to, then use the weakest loctite you can on the screws, don't use loctite on plastic thought as it can eat it away.
