The harmonic balancer is the bottom pulley where all your belts are driven from.

To remove it you support the engine on a jack, Remove the passenger side bash bar, undo the engine mounts and lower the engine a little. The pulley is then removed by undoing the nut on the end and pulling it off. You get at it through the passenger front wheel well ( after taking off the plastic splash gaurd.

After that you pry out the old seal with a screwdriver and push in a newy.

Assembly is the reverse prceedure...lol

"Speedy sleeve"?.......***nose.....newy on me....:eh:

because the seal eventually wears the metal on the harmonic balancer, the put a sleeve over it so make the seal good again. i put a speedy sleeve on my balancer, but by the time they need a sleeve, you need a new balancer. the rubber seperated and the balancer fell off my motor a few months later.

best bet is to get a replacement balancer that doesn't need a sleeve - if it dont need a sleeve, it hasn't done a lot of km, and will last longer.

yeh $295 seems alot
i did what bcx7 said and it only cost me i think 35 for the balancer that was in fair good nick then the oil seal which was only something like $7-9 and took under an hour to do, so these days mechanic's change a standard hour rate which can be any where from 50-80

Agreed, i paid about $40 for one in good condition from a wrecker and $7 for the seal. easy enough to do yourself as old fart has described... you just need a big breaker bar or be really strong to unbolt and do up the balancer from the motor.
