been looking at some manual trucks, the salesman told me that when i need to change into 2nd gears from 1st, i need to pump the clutch for it to go in? only does it when going from 1st-2nd, he told me its nothing major, just soemthing with the synchro..

do you guys think it can be as simple as that? or there might be something else? also if the synchro is out a little bit, how long will the gearbox lasts?

btw.. he told me you hardly ever need to engage from 1st to 2nd, as you can start off in 2nd so basically you can overlook that problem if you want to?

It means the syncro going from 1st to 2nd is badly worn, and by "pumping the clutch" he means double clutching. It helps syncronise the speeds of different gearbox components to help change into 2nd gears. Be wary of what he's telling you, it means the gearbox is on the way out. If the syncro from 1st to 2nd is badly worn it means the box has either had a thrashing (not likely in a truck) or a huge amount of work. Either way, if this syncro is going, its likely other components are on their way out as well and you'll be up for a rebuilt or replacement box in the near future.

Tell him to either knock the price down significantly or to rebuild the box before you buy it.
