Check you oil level.. then consider a service.. The slipping will be your clutch packs..

Does it delay engaging when going from "N" to "D"..??:)

Lot of 3rd gens have done this. Probably best to flush and refill tranny and new filter, then disconnect battery for a while then take it for a run to reprogram the tranny. This has fixed mine permanently

My 98 TF does this to, but its olny started doing it after had tranny fuild and filter changed, it only does it once when first start to drive the car, then doesnt do it after that until engine gets cold again

That sounds like oil level.. Have you checked it recent..??

Id say you are due for an oil change as a few have said... Just make sure you put the right oil in as they are very sensitive to the oil..

Best to get mits so to it.. No expensive..:)

Had a similar problem on the tp, turned out to be the tps (throttle position sensor) needed adjustment. What this device has to do with the auto, is anyones guess.

the "over revving" between gear changes is called transmission flare, and sadly, in my experiences with 3rd gen autos, this normally means the box is on its way out! if you have gear thumps, for eg 3rd to 4th.. and you have old software in your ecu, mitsu can reflash the ecu to improve/fix the thump.. that is of course, if a revised version is available for your model! using the MUTT III can automatically tell you if there is an update available!
you mentioned you had an '02 model? in '02 mitsu had lots of extended warranty, servicing campaigns back then... maybe urs has the extended warranty, 6yrs or 150k? taking ur car to a dealer with ur vin number can tell u this. otherwise, take it to a dealer to see if there are any codes in the tranny.. if so... the auto's days are numbered!
