Hi all,

The motorised antenna on my 1995 KS Verada Ei sedan recently decided to stop working. I switch on the radio, I hear the antenna motor turning (quite loudly), but the arial doesn't go up. I can grab the antenna and move it freely up and down, so it seems like it's become detached from the mechanism...? It's kinda annoying me because it makes a loud noise for about 10 seconds after I turn the radio (or CD player) on or off.

My new car is arriving soon, so it's not that big a deal, but if it's something I can easily (and cheaply) fix myself, then I'd like to do it.

Failing that, I wouldn't mind completely disconnecting the antenna so it doesn't make any unnecessary noise.

Thanks in advance!

It sounds like the flexible antennae cable gear has either broken or slipped free of the drive gear. Pull off the interior panel behind it, and you'll be able to see what's happened. From memory, new units are around $50 from Repco or Robbos. You could also try a wrecker, or if you really wanted to you could change it to a fixed arial.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! I'll try pulling off that panel inside the boot tomorrrow... Excuse my n00bishness but, is it easy? Just give it a good tug and the panel will break off?

Don't pull it so hard that it breaks, it's only masonite. It's held on with velcro and spring clips, so VERY gently pull at the ends until you can look in behind it, and work from there.

The panel is actuallty comprssed cardboard covered in carpet. There is no velcro on it.

You will notice scrwes under the boot mat, up top there are black round clips. If you are careful you can then pull back the lining and they will come out.
