now i have my fairly beasty stereo (12" sub & 1000W Amp) quite often the charge light comes on while driving. i tested it 2nite and when it comes on if i mute the stereo it goes away.

Now i would love to blow the ecu up so i could give mum and dad a reason to let me put in an aftermarket one, but i'm broke.

I'm also getting 2 more amps (2x75WRMS each amp) so i think the prob will get worse.

NE ideas????

you want to blow the ecu up why?
Its a charge problem, your alternator cant keep up with the amount of power being drained from the battery by your stereo/amps. If the charge light stays on too often, u'll find yourself unable to start your car one day due to a flat battery.
I think the standard is 80amps, correct me if im wrong, you might have to get a stronger one, like 100-120amps.
A bigger battery would be recommended too.

I dont know how you're going to blow the ecu up.

Plus for an aftermarket one you're looking at over 2k

read the rest of the sentence, then theres no need to ask why.

last time the charge light was coming on, the car was over charging and it blew the ecu (that was be4 i was into cars, so it got a new stock 1 put in).

where would i go to see about a bigger altenator, a stereo place or a parts place like super cheap???

Why don't you just spill a can of coke on the ECU? Don't ask me how you'd explain this to your parents though  The only thing you're going to blow with your stereo is the alternator and/or battery.
