howdy,
how often do u need to change your fuel filter? i dunno when the last time it was done in my car (if ever). Is it easy to do yourself or just pay a mechanic an hour's labour and keep my hands clean?
i do mine every 10 000km
every 2nd oil change pretty much.
its not worth wasting money on a mechanic, its easy enough to do yurself

Not sure on the manufacturers specified replacement intervals, but I'm sure every 20,000 - 30,000km's would be more than enough.
Easy to change yourself, just a little trick to it - you have to push the filter forward into the pipe running to the front of the car to disengage it from it's clip....... I spent about 20mins sucking in petrol fumes trying to "pull it off" before I came on here and used the magical SEARCH button :bowrofl: .

It might explain the rough running.. maybe its dirty.. or could be the oil thats on the spark plugs. Maybe the injectors are clocked up with oil too. Who knows... damn car
change yur fuel filter, clean yur injectors, change yur spark plug leads

My servicing book (third generations) indicates the in-line HP Fuel Filter is thrown on the 105k service. Not bad mileage!!

Mitsubishi reccomend changing the external filter every 40,000kms and the internal one every 100,000kms..:)
Easy to do.. only thing is its under the back of the car so a little hard to get to and you will get some fuel on you.... If your mechanic is good or a mate its will take him 2-3mins on the hoist so manybe he can do it for you one arvo after work..:P

do 2nd gens have a filter near the tank/under the car as well?
i changed my fuel filter (in engine bay, on firewall) last week and it made quite a difference. smoother idle, better throttle response, doesn't hesitate as much when i take off, etc.

3rd gen fuel filter renewal is done at 105,000klms as per service book!
no, they don't have an in-tank fuel filter, just the external unit.
40 and 100k?? mitsu since mid '96 has had service intervals every 15k, so no where in the book will you see service times at those klms, unless of course your book has the small " change timing belt at 100k" section.
id change the fuel filter every 40k if i owned a carby'd mitsu, SJ express, 'cos they are cheap are very easy to replace.
anything earlier than 60-80k for efi fuel filters on the mitsu is overservicing in my opinion, unless of course you constantly run average quality fuel.. like small servo stuff, and just as poor, woolworths!
