I've just finalised an incredible deal here in Brisbane but, due to my suspicious nature, and the fact that the dealer "accidently" quoted me for an SX before I corrected them, I'm wondering how to get a foolproof method of confirming the car on delivery is a Series 2 VRX.

Because the SX and VRX underpinings are identical, is it possible a dearlership could order an SX with leather and then just refit to VRX specs?

I thought the best method would be to get the VRX range of chassis numbers and on delivery just make sure the number on the plate falls within the range. Does anyone (Mitsu employees;) ) know how to obyain these?

Car will be delivered 21-24 July.

Redbook will show VIN for each model in the specification link. I would be looking more at build date ie series 1 or 2.

Well the SX & VRX do have a few differences, and in my humble opinion I'd say that a dealer is unlikely to spend the time & effort to retro-fit an SX, to make it appear as a VR-X.

Most notably, the darkened head & tail lights + rear integrated spoiler will be the tell-tale signs, but also check that the alloy wheel pattern is similar to the GT (VRX series 2 vehicles have the same wheel as GT......VRX series 1 have LX-style wheels)

The bumpers will have to be replaced as well, I would think, because the VRX & GT have different bumpers.

Inside the car, I believe the VRX has carbon-fibre look trip strips, whereas the SX has plain silver strips - so look at the dash & front doors to see if they're the carbon look. And if you were able to order an SX with factory leather, it would bump the price up a fair bit, so the dealer might be better off getting a "real" VRX rather than modifying an SX to look the part.

Also, if it is a Series 2 - The "380VRX" badging will be under the left tail-light, not the right.

Just my 2 cents worth, but yeah it is highly unlikely that a dealer would go to the time & expense of retrofitting a SX to make it seem like a VRX, but it doesn't hurt to check anyway.

It's extremely unlikely a dealership would do that, especially on a brand new car. If you're paranoid tho there is a surefire way to check. When the car comes, get the VIN and ring MMAL and tell them you're looking to buy the car and want to know if it's a genuine VRX. That's what I did when I bought my Ralliart.

Thanks all,

The consensus is probably right - it would be too much time and effort to upgrade an SX. I've been told the car had to be ordered from the factory so the suggestions re badges etc I'll definitely check.
