What is it for?

My mechanic says theres a hole in it and it's leaking coolant. Why would coolant be in the timing cover?

Cheers

is it a 4cyl?

it's a heard-of problem if so... Cos the block is the same as the sigma astron block, the timing cover in the magna plugs up the hole in the block where the water pump usually gets it's feed from (in sigmas, the water pump sat in the timing cover)

they corrode out and leak coolant eventually, or it could be a dodgy timing cover gasket.

Doesnt the water pump sit under the timing belt..??

If so the water pump is prob leaking.. when the bearings have had it they leak coolant..:)

if the water pump is leaking (under the timing cover), you will have to repolace it, coz the seal has gone. Might wanna do timing belt too is it's close mileage-wise.

Mine was replaced at the same time the timing chains were done so i would have that problem down the track.

if it's a 4 cyl, the waterpump is external to the motor, driven by the camshaft. quality mitsubishi engineering :doubt:
