It doesn't have a chassis.

Its all just part of the body.

i was thinking in the future to put a diff in the rear for awd and i was going to use a 5 link/point diff. where would i attach the supports that prevent the diff from moving sideways. there is one each side. science and i were talking about this and i forgot to bring up the mounting of this. if there is no chassis frame to weld a bracket to how do i secure it?

mmm i was under the impression that it a monoquocte (bad spelling)
like my 71 xy which is 2 chasiss rails welded on either end of the main body, so the body is part of the chasiss but there is actuall rails if u know what i mean. but correct me if im wrong cos im not 100% on that. its just my first gen is like that.

at the gearbox engine or diff? i talking about as smooth2 says with the rails. it cant just be body there will not be enough strength. there has to be rails in there somewhere and mounting the stabaliser bars for the diff onto these then using a live axle with coil overs for the suspension. also im not talking about rwd only using a gto gearbox and transfer case and having awd. sure i know some bracing will be needed but not heaps if i weld the brackets to these main chasis rails

Why don't you have a look under there?

4 cyl and ive tried looking i just cant get under there for a good look. i dont have axle stands or a hoist and i dont trust the jack.

Quick tip, always put your spare tyre under the car as well. If the jack fails, at least you have that as a backup; might save your life.

i still would never do that. a jack can be very tempremental, and a rim and tyre really arent meant to be a "backup" for a jack.

please mate, if you really want to look, just ring around for a cheap set of stands or ramps. i find ramps great, although my bumper scrapes on them as i drive up and its not even lowerd!

id hate to hear that someone got squashed for trying to save $30-$40 on ramps.

mmm some vechile stands wouldnt set you back more then $60 or so for a set of heavy duty ones......theres gotta be something wrong with ya if you dont use ramps or stands......

Yeah, I should have actually stated never to get under with a jack, I was actually thinking as backup for stands, a mate of mine recently had stands topple over when something drastically unbalanced and threw the car he was working on sideways, lucky for him he had the tyre there as backup, and as it was, amazingly lucky he just got some muscle-strain injuries, nothing broken or permanently damaged.

So to reiterate: Never get under a car with only a jack or hoist, as are far from foolproof (I myself have had a jack sheer through). If raising a car with the intent of getting under it, always use proper stands. And as an added precaution, no matter what you are doing, even changing a tyre, it's still a good idea to put the spare under the car, 'cause in a worse-case scenario where it all goes pear-shaped, it at least gives you a second-chance at survival. Obviously don't rely on it, but it can only do good rather than harm.

If you live on a quiet street you can just park your car half on half off the gutter and jump under for a look.
