Your brother is wrong!
a) There's no new magna's being made
b) The "new" magna is the 380, which is a 3.8 SOHC
c) Magna's have never had a DOHC in them (except for custom 2nd gens)

Don't know about the 3.8, but the 3L definitetly is DOHC, not sure about the 3.5L.

There was DOHC and SOHC 3.5lt in the previous shape Pajero. 3.8 is SOHC.
im sure i seen a new pajero dribing around with 3.8 DOHC, but could be wrong

Yeh jap spec had 2.5L DOHC v6 and 3.0L DOHC v6 (maybe even 3.5L in the last ones). But they're not "Magnas" ;).

here's a slighltly off topic question, but are 3rd gen Diamante's still being made for JDM?
Yes I do believe that Diamantes are still being made in Japan, for their domestic market. I stumbled upon the Japanese Mitsubishi website earlier this year and the still had the Diamante on there. Can't read a word of Japanese, but the pictures were great. Basically their current Diamante range looks like :
The front looks like a TH with the chrome mesh grille
The rear looks like our KJ Verada, with the slim lights (no boot lights) and a huge chrome garnish around the number plate.
No doubt they have a mind-boggling array of engine choices, trim levels and factory options (eg. rear wiper!!) as well as lots of goodies for the interior that us in Australia would never even dream of having.
The factory alloys include those seen on the Aussie 2000-2002 Nimbus!

The Pajero 3.0 was SOHC. The first Pajero 3.5 was DOHC 24V hi comp, needed 95 octane! The DOHC was introduced in 1996 as standard in the Exceed, the ones with the tri tone pain. Late 1996 it was optional in the GLS before being replaced late 1997 by the 3.5 SOHC 24V that was used until the 3.8 in the current model. The Ralliart Pajero Evolution had the 3.5 DOHC 24V MIVEC engine, I belive that current shape also used it as well. As an interesting aside, after the Pajero Evolution was released there was a rumour of the Evolution 2 being powered by a 4.5 DOHC 32V MIVEC V8 similar to the engine used in the Debonaire. Word had it a Evo 1 mule was lapping the test track as quick as a Lancer Evo 3.
As we all know the Pajero Evolution 2 never happened.

"When is a DOHC not a DOHC?"
6G72/74 is argueably (by the salesmen!) a "DOHC" as its got 2 heads with 1 cam each.
Thus its technically "double overhead cam"
A true DOHC V6 with twin cams per bank can then be called "Quad Cam".

Your brother is wrong.
1) There's no new magna's.
2) The DOHC 24v 6G74 3.5l V6 is not new either. It's been around since 93/94 and was not used in any magna/diamante ever. It was used in the Pajero/Montero and the Debonair and Proudia (Both JDM cars)
Edit: It was the Proudia that had the 4.5l V8, not the Debonair. Just for interest's sake.

No that's wrong, technically it means Two cams per head. So the salesman deserves a smack in the face ;)
