View Full Version : reversing sensor installation
Hi All,
I've just bought a set of reversing sensors off of Ebay. Anyone know whether I have to
take the rear bumper off to fit the sensors? Like, is there anything directly behind the
plastic bit that will prevent me drilling the four holes.
TIA.

Yes, it came with a hole saw drill bit. I spoke to a dealer and they said that its going to
cost me $200.00 to get it painted and fitted. They said its because they have to take off
the bumper. Just trying to get a second oppinion. It costs $60 just to paint them. So $140
to fit!!!???

I put em in Pookys 2 gen real easy. The bit they give ya doesnt like the metal though so if it is there be careful.
The install is piss easy though.:D

So, what did you use to drill through the metal?

I didnt hit metal through 3 of em (I think its had a tap up the bum) and the last 1 I just tapped the metal back a bit with a dolly through the hole in the plastic.
The wiring is a snap:D

Try putting a good strong magnet up to the bumper and see if it tries to stick. If it does its a fair bet theres metal behind them there bumpers. :D

Thanks for your help. I've got just the magnet sitting at home, its used to clean my fish
tank.
What do you mean by tapping the metal to push it back. I thougt the metal bumper brace
was welded on to the rest of the car?

The main brace on the 2nd gen comes out to some flat plates that are inside the plastic outer. Because of where the holes were I was no-where near the main supports so I just had to knock back the inner metal skin a bit.
Then I just drilled a hole up into the boot and put the module in behind the liner near the taillight. Then just hook it to the reverse lights and run the cable up to the front. :D

I have had them installed in my 3rd gen AWD. I got someone to install them because i looked under the car up under the bumper and the Verada's have the intrusion bar behind the front and rear bumpers. I dont know how they installed them but even with them in, when i look under the car up behind the bumper, i cant see them because that metal intrusion bar is in the way. I recon its worth getting someone to do it because they know what they are doing. I would think its a bumper off job. They also calabrate them at the same time.

Cant remember. Was nearly a year ago. Maybe a few hundred $$. Can get you the name of the place that did it. In the Moorabbin area in Melbourne. Top job. Cant reccomend them enough. They do all prestiege european cars.
