Just wondering if any one else with a KH on Verada with the auto dimming driver's side exterior mirror have a problem with it in very cold conditions? Over the last couple of weeks it's been below zero a number of times in Canberra as I drive to work and I've noticed that only the driver's side mirror appears to ice over or fog up. The car lives under a carport but both mirrors are dry and clear for the first 5-10 minutes then the driver's mirror becomes useless. It usually clears up after 15 minutes but has no drops on the outside of the lens which makes me wonder if the gel is actually the problem.

They are heated mirrors from my understanding. I sort of found out the hard way when the glass decided to detach its self. If you dismantle the mirror you will see two green wires from what i remember when i put mine back together. I think the mirror has an element built in to demist. My drivers one is stuffed and stays fogged up but the passenger one still works ok. If you do attempt to pull apart and put it together it is a bit of a pain. Best thing to do is leave it alone and just give it a wipe with a cloth or something when it does fog up.

think they work on LCD technology, LCDs will freeze up under very cold situations
like when we took a Casio watch to the snow - it just greyed out until thawed.
Same thing if your Handycam or digicam gets too cold in the snow.

The mirrors aren't heated as far as I can tell, no mention of it anywhere and no fuses that I have found. I wonder if the JDM Diamante had both heated and auto dimming mirrors. According to my US Diamante list they had heated mirrors with and without memerory, not sure about auto dimming though. Looks like some detective work is in order then.

The two green wires that i mentioned go into the mirror glass with a small plug. When the glass fell out in mine the two green wires saved it from falling right out. I am pretty sure they are heated mirrors in the verada models. I rang mitsu re replacement mirrors and he did ask me if i wanted a normal mirror or electric heated mirror. Try the spare parts department to verify..

The auto dimming mirrors on Verada's arn't heated. Those wires must be realted to something else. If they were heated then you wouldnt have any problems with fogging up.

Pulled the driver's mirror off today and it's got 5 wires going into it. I assume 2 are for the adjustment and 2 would be for the dimming function. It's the 5th wire, that has me wondering. Didn't get a chance to check the passenger mirror.

Well, if the defroster is stuffed, then that will explain why there's fog.

they have an lcd panel for dimming only. defrosting models have an inbuilt indicator for defrost (see picture). the five wires are, two for lcd one for up/down motor one for left/right motor and the last one is ground.
