Have done 200kms in my new TR Magna SE and have a few questions...

The Fuel Gauge... It Seems to go up and down a bit was on my way to my g/f half way there it went almost to empty i turned around becuase i didnt think id make it then it went back up to 1/4... is this a normal thing and should i only use the fuel gage as a rough guide???

the car has a RWC but iv noticed that the service sticker on the window say sevice at 180,000km's' its now done 217,000 and iv noticed the power stearing fluids almost empty what sort of things should i check that wouldnt have been done for RWC

loud sort of scraping noise coming from belts on right side of engine bay(looking from the front of the car) are these the famous timing belts??? and would they have to be right for RWC or could they need a service??? if anyone in Gippsland can just have a look 4 me would be great

i adjusted the tension on the belt and it's alright now. i don't think it's covered in the RWC - the RWC just makes sure the car is mechanically driveable on the road (ie brakes, wheels are OK) - doesn't mean that it will last for long. Mine had a RWC and the radiator started leaking 2 months later. Pain to fix, but technically does affect the "driveability".

Fuel guage will fluctuate, can't remember if it's less uphill or downhill (downhill rings a bell).

less uphill. nothing more fun than looking at the gauge going up and down when going thru hills

The loud scraping noise sounds like the timing CHAIN, they don't have belts!! the guides will be worn...the TR had the chain adjuster without the ratchet system to keep it in place. You can adjust the balance shaft chain through the little cover (has two small bolts holding it on) on the timing case. To replace the timing chain and guides is very fiddly in the car...so the best way to do it is to pull the motor!! It sounds daunting but it is the best way....and while youre there you may as well put in a new set of valve seals!!

The steering pump will squeal its nut off if the fuid is low!! Look for any leaks form the attached hoses and he pump itself....in the meantime keep it topped up.

The fuel guage can fluctuate ....but it sounds like your sender is at fault...I had the same problem it my old TM ....you can get one from the wreckers cheap and from Mitsi they are about $150.
Sorry, I was in Gippsland last week....could have helped....hope you can find somone near!!
