Anyone elses' WAGON also suffer from Squeaky Creaky floors?

Wagon in top nick with only 56,000km, loadspace floor squeaks and creaks quite a bit.
Didn't quite bother me at first but hey its a KJ Verada so it shouldn't be doing that!!!
plus gotten spoilt by the 'silence' in 3.5 sedan (no noise even with 143,000km).

Tried anything to fix it?

Am thinking of pulling out all the fluff & carpeting in the loadarea and seeing if
the MDF floor bits can be taking off, maybe refit with silicone sealant or mastic etc.

Haven't noticed it in mine, although my wagon is generally full of work gear most of the time.

You sure its not the rear seat strikers making noise?

Mitsubishi brought out a revised part because they always creak and knock etc.

Almost every wagon that hasnt been fitted with the new strikers makes noise.

Yeah mine did that for a while. Cant remember what i did to fix it. I think i sprayed the bottom of the MDF around there the screws are with wd40 or something. For memory, that fixed it. DOesnt to it anymore. I think it was where the MDF meets the plastic nylon thread thing for the screws. Oh yeah, i also found the tighter i did up the screws, the more it squeaked. Have them a little more loose and there isnt so much friction and doesnt squeak as much.

Rear seat strikers and the fixing points for the MDF eh?

Great ideas folks, will try lube them with some hi-tech liquid wax when I check it out.

 Hmmm, I keep blaming the cargo barrier for all the noise in the back of my wagon. Looks like it'll have to come out for a while and I have some investigating to do.

Cargo barrier makes its own rattles but you can tell the difference between
rattly metal-on-metal, the plastic window rattling and squeaky floorboards.

Am now also thinking my boards might have gotten a little warped 'cos I've got a
wire crate (filled with my carcare stuff) permanently tied to the floor's tiedown hooks.

Will have to lose the crate soon... we're overdue for a big shopping trip to Ikea!! lol

Just remembered that before we bought Max, our mechanic checked him over and went for a spin and said there is a known problem with the rear of the 3rd gen wagons (think he meant suspension-wise) which he can tell immediately when he drives it 'round and he gave ours the all clear.:)

My 97 TF Wagon does have a creaking from the back, but i was figuring this was suspension.
I'll have to have a squiz tomorrow.

I've got squeaking from my rear seat something shocking. Gotten used to it now, my stereo is always cranked anyway. (Means I can only hear the the rattle from the f'n mirror  )

Interested to know about this replacement part thats been mentioned though...

I forgot about the noisey seat catches. A trick we used to do before Mitsubishi agreed there was a problem was to wrap the catch in tape. Mind you, I'm not sure I've got a noise from the back with my 18 month old's 2 prams rattleing away back there!

To match the Verada spec, we've invested in a Bugaboo Chameleon. :P

If that thing so much as rattles, I'm claiming warranty!!!
better be no rattles for that price!!

Bertini Bidwell and Peg perigo P3 in the back. They don't rattle, when closed properly. I traced 1 rattle to the cargo blind hitting the Bidwell at one end and the add on cup holder hitting the rear window. Easy fix, fold the damm pram tighter.

I've got those damn squeeks and rattles in my wagon too. I figure it must be the mdf cargo floor as I couldn't really hear the squeeks when I had a boot full of heavy luggage.

Thought it might also be the rear wiper assembly hanging off the rear window, or the tailgate, or the shocks, or all of them.

Haven't got around to trying to fix it up yet so I'll be interested if you find a definite cause.

Funnily enough, they sound much quieter after I got rear-ended by a Calais today, but I wouldn't recommend this as a fix...

okie, update...

Emptied out the entire cargoarea - first time its been so empty since we bought it.
leaving only a thick wool blanket (souvenired from boarding school).

wow... SILENCE! no squeeks, no rattles

Went to Ikea, came back with over 350kg of flatpacked furniture.
(fyi the max Length is 220cm possible in load area; wife bought 240cm :doubt: )

After all the stuff was unloaded and the cargoarea was empty again,
I got a phillips screwdriver & cranked down the 8 screws I could find.
All of them were pretty loose! not sure what they go into but, sheetmetal?

Plus feels like the side MDF bits got padding under them anyway.

Have returned my goodies crate back into the wagon but didn't get time
to take it out again to see if the noises had returned.

So it was just the extra stuff you had in the boot squeaking and rattling?

(fyi the max Length is 220cm possible in load area; wife bought 240cm :doubt: )bet it wasn't funny at the time, but :bowrofl:

nah, it was the weight ~10kg on the MDF

Crate's pretty big, about 60x40cm and up high as cargo cover.
Carrys all my car maintenance stuff but everything's well packed & insulated = no rattles.
Usually the only noise I cna hear is the sloshing around of the liquids in the bottles.

bet it wasn't funny at the time, but :bowrofl:
not as funny as cranking up 200W of audio with tailgate ajar (rear speakers!) & all windows
down (to avoid sucking in exhaust gas) just me driving (all other seats unusable)...
driving thru busy Victoria St Richmond (vietnamese enclave) playing Julio Inglesias lol

Just got my wagon back from the panel beaters after being fixed after being rear-ended, still had a rattle in the back. Removed spare wheel, jack, unscrewed and removed all mdf cargo base, removed all loose items, removed cargo barrier - still rattles. Doesn't sound like the seat, maybe it's the shockers ? Oh well, put back spare wheel, mdf base, jack, cargo barrier etc. etc. Fold down rear seat, drive away, no rattle...

Do you happen to know if this revised part is covered by warranty/recall ? Seeing as I haven't had my car serviced at my local Mitsubishi dealership I don't like my chances of getting an honest answer from them.

What do the revised catches look like?

After a few weekends of trips to Ikea... mine's creaking again.

Gunna have to pull up the MDF and rescrew them back with either wax or silicone glue,
hopefully bit more permanent fix.

difference is that the old strikers were black, and the new ones are hard chrome plated!

part numbers for the improved strikers are : MR924209 (near side)
MR924210 (off side)

to check if the strikers are actually causing the noises you hear, drop the rear seats, and then go for a drive.. no noise, strikers at fault. noise still there.. well, keep looking!

p.s: im not sure what these parts retail for, but to find out, ring the spare parts department and quote the above numbers for price and availability
