Decided to remove the paper thing behind my maf yesterday but went a bit further., if you have seen your maf it has 3 main intakes 1 rectange with 2 round tubes, you can remove the tubes but doing this the motor wont idle (trust me done it on my spare maf) but with closer inspection where the maf bolts to the air bell there are 4 holes about 6mm to let air through 2 close together and then one left and right side of the maf this is where the mod comes in, open the 4 holes to 10mm and add a 2 new 10mm holes above the ones to the left and right of the main intake holes gives you aprox 24mm more air going in doesnt screw your idle and the difference well im smiling.
windows paint rox should give you an idea

wouldn't this lean out the air/fuel ratios due to unmetered air?

it would be metered by the o2 sensor they all work together, after my K&N filter went in friends reported my car as running fumey and if i give it some stick befor pulling up you can smell the cat doing its job seems to have corrected this. i have an air/fuel meter i can connect here with some effort but i dont think its an issue

it would be something to look at as a full time mod as most first gen o2 sensors are dead

last time i had it all hooked up the sensor seemed to be working ok

hmm if you havnt pluged it back in why not just remove the whole afm unit then there wont be any restrictions

ok it's done now. as for sound when i took out the silencer. didn't notice any difference. as for the mod with drilling those holes, the pedal seems more responsive to the foot but thats about it

Head gasket and head. Or just head, not sure....
Got all the parts here, but the old man wants to give me a hand tightening up a few bolts....
5 weeks and counting.

if u want i'll scan the pages u need and u can do it urself. just remember that with the head gasket u need to re-tension the head 300klms down the road. and be carefull when tightening it all up cos the bolts are soft alloy and dosen't take much to to snap one.
as long as u have a socket set, ring spanners and a torqure wrench oh and time , you could do it urself. might take an extra hour or so cos it's ur first time but other than that it's not a hard job just fidley and time consumming.

I got the new head sitting on there now, only took me about 10 mins to get it back on.
All I have to do is lift off the head put on a new head gasket, new intake and exaust gaskets then the cam and stuff back on.
The old man wants to help to make sure I don't do something stupid. And the whole bonding thing....
But hey, thanks for the offer.

yea no probs. i think it's just better to do it urself and stuff up or u'll never learn anything. plus it's not like it's a ferrari or any thing. i did mine about three months ago . and before doing it the only cars i have worked on were build before 1975. so it looked very confusing when i opened the hood all this fuel injection stuff!!
anyway what im trying to say is id never do it before but when followong the manual u can't really go wrong.
might just need to tell him to hurry up so u can enjoy the car or if he's taking to long tell him u'll do it urself and see how long it take to get him to help you.
