At least mount it under the seats or under the dash.
Visible neons suck, and just make heaps of glare = hard to drive at night.
Nice glow effect and no visible neon ftw
Cops will bust your *** with neons there as well

what he said..
if you are still insistant on placing them there at least wire them up behind the dash properly.. chop off the cig socket and hard wire it from behind.

easiest way is UNDER THE DASH out of sight, then you can just zip tie em anywhere and splice all the wiring into the ciggy lighter from the back, and you wont look like your in the nightrider with a blue face lit up while your driving.
Don't use your ciggy lighter plug for them, wire them up properly with a cheap $2 switch from jaycar/tandy somewhere (not screwed into your dash though) somewhere unobtrusive under your dash, within easy reach in case of (fashion) police
Or wire it up using the interior light so they come on with the doors.
if you must do it
just drill a tiny hole at the back of the bottom DIN near the top... run the wire taught and perhaps even put black tape over the top (sticking the wire to the top of the pocket) to make it even less visible. Use double sided tape or glue to attach it to that middle area of plastic between the two pockets.
Wiring, just tap into the cig lighter power. Go grab a $2 switch from DSE and wire that in, so if you are concerned with not being able to see, or police, you can just flip it off. This wont stop your cig lighter from working either.
but thats.. if you really want them there... your entire cabin is goin gto be blue, and your'e going to look like an idiot whenpeople can see you alll blue'd up at night when you pull up behind them hehe.
but, i spose this is why 99% of people by rice :D

wow what a suprise it looked bad and like a fish bowl everyone said that it was so obvious, i wouldnt exactly call putting neons in a mod worth posting heaps of photos of especially when theyre all exactly the same, im pretty sure everyone gets the idea of what they look like.

remember, mr glove box is always a out of the way place to put the odd stray switch much like ur bootlid release one, if ur that keen on switches, perhaps center console arm box thingy, (peronally, mines full of scrathed cd's, chewing gum, and those little packets of salt that ya get from maccas) or sneakey upside sunvisor, ive got a uhf under my steering wheel, and unless ur perving at my crotch, u dont really notice things hiding down under :-)
i had a mate whos radio scanner lived behind his center console air vents, and had a switch else where.. never saw it untill it comes on.. sneaky.
well placed neons can be used for good low lighting effects and highlights, just dont go overboard with em :-)

The plastic holder underneath the head unit should have a small gap on top.. its only plastic to get a screw driver or something and lever the gap big enough to push wires in.. Be gentle. dont break the plastic..:)

for abit of fun...i had 2x 24inch green neons in my boot attached to my boot light.
now ive got them placed on my parcel shelf up the back and the best part is...u cant get fined for them since you dont drive with your doors open or boot up.
something i want to do is fit pure white dome lights along the roof...ive seen it done and it looks awesome... any ideas how i could go about doing it?...sorry to hijack thread

i was gonna get that EL cable and fit that along the roof in 2 lines but it creates too much glare perhaps i might get back onto it when i do my custom interior

Passenger one looks awesome Erik, drivers one i agree is too high, if you can see the neon it sucks, your setup looks identical to the one i had in my TR.
I'll be doing something similar with red neons in the future, probably wont go that bright though.
