Hey guys, on start up my oil light generally comes on for about 30 seconds along with some excess noise from the engine bay. As soon as the light goes out the noise stops and that is the end of it.

After some recent rough driving (damn roads out bush) the oil light stays on untill I am doing about 40km/h but there is still some noise coming from the engine bay, a different noise this time though, sounds as if the belt on the engine isn't tight enough....

Also, the bottom of the sump tank got a few small dents in it....

Anyone know what my problem is/ how to fix it?

It's sitting just under full.

I have put a thing Lifter free in it and driven close to 1,500 KM's sine I changed the oil last.

However I do not know if it was the type of oil I used or not, will go and look at the container it was in (from memory it was the right stuff)

You've prolly fuggered the oil level send unit which tells the light to come on the dash when you have no oil.

have u checked the oil filter? it may be blocked if so the oil is probbally been let out through a relief valve in the oil pump. not a good thing as the light turns off around 30 kpa and the pump puts out anything from 76 kpa to 400 kpa

have u checked the oil filter?

It's brand new, but I will have a look when it is a little warmer (the car is in doors but no heating down stairs).

Okay I just went for a little drive and once the engine got a little warmer the oil light dissapeared not to return! I suppose it just makes a while to warm up or something?

Oh and the new noise has dissapeared, must have just been some mud on something that ahs dried and fallen off.

Mate if your oil light is on and your engine is noisy till the oil light turns off you are either running really crap oil or you have major problems with your engine. I would suggest at a minimum take it to a workshop and get the oil pressure checked. Your engine is either very tired eg wear and tear or your oil pump may be on the way out. If your oil light stayes on for long periods and your engine is noisy there is a high chance it may seize. GET IT CHECKED ASAP.

Oil problem is fixed now, well back to normal. It only happens when it is very cold or it is the first start of the day.

There's a sensor plug near the oil filter... isn't this for the oil can light?

If you've been bushbashing there's a pretty even chance a twig could have
hit the sensor's wiring and its making dodgy contact...
