Howdy all
I just bought a 2003 TJ2 Advance on LPG and it's wonderful compared to my 1987 VL :)
I have a couple of questions though:
1) It looks as thought there ought to be something illuminating the keyhole for the ignition switch.... do I have a blown globe or is there no key illumination?
2) My handbrake lever seems to have a fair bit of play in it before the ratchet starts. I need to pull it up a couple of inches before I hit the first ratchet, and I get 2 ratchet clicks before it won't pull any further. Is this normal?
3) Would I need any special tools to install a towbar?
Thanks.

No, it's not. You can adjust the cable at the lever end. I've never done it myself though. Someone will come along eventually with instructions, or you can do a search on adjusting the handbrake as it's been covered a bunch of times before.
Also, I think some cars have ignition illumination some don't, but I'm not sure of the model breakdown.

Hey,
How could you say that abvout your VL?, They are great cars!, well only the turbo's :)
Seriously:
I have a TJ AWD, it doesn't have a light to illuminate the ignition so I would say that either we both have the same problem or there is not meant to be a light there. :D.
The handbrake should have more give in it than the 2 ratchett clicks so I would get it checked out, if your car is still under warranty it should be an easy claim.
As for the towbar, I dont know, I have never installed or seen one installed. Generally there are some towbar specialists that will install one for you, this depends on your bank balance though. :) What is the tow bar going to be used for? If it is just for small loads an aftermarket one will be ok, but if you are towing a horse float or other heavy loads it might stretch the chassis a bit.

Hmmm that's a bummer.
I think an ignition light would be a useful mod to do :) Might be fairly simple too, especially if other models have it already.
The towbar would just be for the occasional trailer of stuff to go to the tip, or moving of furniture etc. Nothing too heavy.
My understanding is the towbar just bolts straight on to the bottom of the car, but I don't know if that applies to both Factory and aftermarket models.

Asylum has installed a key surround light into his car, im sure he will offer his imput sometime.
and with the towball, yes it should just bolt up to the existing holes for it. you could do this yourself if you can put the back of the car up on ramps and get under it. you may also need to do some bolts up through the spare tyre well also.

LPG, that's really interesting. Please tell me more. How much boot space do you lose. I want to get a Lpg car next time. I assume it is dual system (petrol and LPG). hOW ECONOMICAL?

putting the actuall towbar on should be easy, its wiring up the plug for the lights which is the tricky bit if u dont have electrical knowledge, id just take it to a pro, i got prices for one for my TE and they were about $260 fully installed with towball ready to go.

I have a TJ Magna Advance and I looked up under my car last week and my towbar is held on by 4 bolts to the chassis. Actually i want to get rid of it because it looks heavy.
I was wondering about that key light too...why do they put that clear bit around the keyhole if it doesnt work! I hope someone can post some instructions on how to fix/ what models have it as standard.

wiring is easy... go to ur local auto electrical suppliers and ask for a y adapter for a trailer plug. Ingrams sells them. will get the part # 2nite if ppl want. u just dicon ur tail light, plug this in and plug it back into ur tail light and stick the cable out of the car somewhere.
yeah i want a light, having had a verada and now a magna i feel im missing out.
