Hey huys,

Just wondering if anyone has ever entered a compitition to test the loudness of their system. Or even if anyone has any unofficial rating. Would be good if you could reply with your reading and what you are running too :D

Also i wouldn't mind purchasing a dB metre anyone know where you can pick just a cheapie up from? i checked out the dB Drag website they have their lowest price @ just over $1000 is tis the price that they normally go for or is that a rip.

cheers AMC PPL

I used to have a corolla which I spent $5500 on the system and pumped out 137.3db and I couldn't handle it no more. The car started to fall apart slowly and then just as I went to sell it, it got stolen. Lucky for me cause it was insured for $6000 extra than what I was going to sell it for.lol lol lol lol

im guesing that price was for a termlab db meter, these are the world recognised tool for reading db in spl comps, and i wouldnt bother "just getting a cheapie" because unless your car was measured on termlab.... no one will care, alot of people just dont realise the difference between 120 and 130 db, its a freakin lot...... that said, i did a 143.2 on termlab about 3 weeks ago with 2 kicker L7's and a kicker kx1200.1 running at 1 ohm

i've got a small hand-held dB meter i use to tune, gave it a go once and it easily went over the 120dB limit it reads. not bad for a single 12" :D

In a magna?

Not bad...

that was after about 2 1/2 hours of testing though, oh and my amp has a birthsheet of about 1500wrms, so the subs are getting fed an extra 150rms each :P gonna get my hands on another 1200.1 and run it for comps. the guy that owned these subs before me did a pb of 141-142 something, running off a 1200.1 in a late 90's model camry

176.5db with only 4800 watts. I find that hard to believe.

actually on second thought i will bother, do you have any idea how loud 176 db is? and the kind of bracing and body work your car would need to produce those numbers? the power side of things is another hurdle all together? how many power runs do you have? how many batteries and what voltage? oh and how many ohms were your subs loaded for? a huge number in todays spl is 158-160 for your average spl enthusiast, 176 is ludacris... and for all of you out there, the loudest street legal car in aus did a 160.7 with 15 kicker soloX's (18") and 16 2000wrms amps, running off a 16v kinetic battery bank... to put his number into perspective, the general rule of thumb is, for every 3db gain, you either need to double your cone area or double your power, i cant be bothered right now so ill let you guys do the mathematics

p.s- your car looks alot better now yld35l, i like

The australian record (as of the 24/2/06) is only 164.8db. As you can see in the link he has 48,000wrms and 2 tonnes of gear.

http://www.dbdragracing.com.au/news.aspx?NewsID=18

The world record is 178.9db (i think) and he needed 54000wrms.

haha, yeah, 176dB....lol

you sure it was with a termlab meter? Where was it mounted? right in front of the sub?

The 'extreme' class are getting somewhere in the 150s, high 150s, and I don't think your car would quite go in the 'Monster' class :P
