alot of people have tried this but have failed coz the light dosnt shine through properly. most people have gone and got custom or aftermarket gauages. if you click on my profile you can see my gauage which is one type of aftermarket gauage you can get.
hope that helps

You can replace the globes with Navara LED wedge lights. Theres 4 lights behind the cluster. I have the blue ones they do shine through enough a little duller than normal white but definatly useable. You can get them from autobarn for $15 for 2 dunno about their legalities but they do look nice. Im using factory guages by the way only replaced the bulbs. The LEDs are brighter just dont disperse the light as well as the bulbs did.

I used that $2 export paint you see in discount stops etc.
I sprayed mine red back in March this year and they are still red and just as bright. My mate did the same in his Cressida in January and shows no sign of fading. In fact his looks even better because he used new globes whereas I just painted the originals.
The light spread is even across the cluster compared to LEDS. Don't waste your money on LEDS - they look crap imo. Painting is a hell of a lot cheaper, better results and there is more choice of colours.:)

What kind of paint did you use? the discount paint i know of is opaque and wouldnt let colour through. Well anyway i just took these for a PM so make up your own mind as you can see the leds don't disperse as well and are a little duller in areas but its a great colour they make. Oh and all dials are brighter in real life the camera made it darker.

Export paint. You can get it at Supercheap. The key is the give the globe only a quick spray until it has a light covering of paint but enough so you can't see through it.

I must admit that it looks pretty good.:D The photo in TEDave's post and some others I've seen on here is the reason I have not bought LEDs. I thought that they all looked like that.

if i can remeber right they are called 3A racing led's, and there is 4LED's to one base, not 1 LED to one base.
Try those, ive got the single LED ones in my car and well they suck! so only get these multi ones and you should love em:)

I have had no problems with LEDs.. Just stick a piece of paper near the LED/take to the end of it with sandpaper and it spreads the light.

Hey, my dash lights are standard red (The car is a 2002 TJ Sports) does that affect anything if i try and change the colours??? I would like to go either blue or yellowThat would depend on how the tint is applied. Don't know the setup. The lights might have a red sleeve, in which case you can replace them and have any colour, or the colour may be external from the light, in which case you can't do it.
eg., the park brake light etc., uses a white light, with a piece of red plastic built into the dash. Replace the white light, and you still have to deal with the red filter.
Don't know why everyone says "no, LEDs won't work". Obviously haven't looked around at what's available. Hell, you can get 1Watt Luxeon T10s (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2pcs-T10-168-194-High-Power-LED-HID-Blue-Wedge-Bulb_W0QQitemZ190009394254QQihZ009QQcategoryZ10256 0QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem), that stuff'll damn-near blind you!
Sources of LEDs? Ebay is your friend. Look for "T10 LED" and "T5 LED". Make sure they are wide-angle, and that the dimensions will fit in your specific application. Don't jump at the first one you see, browse around and learn a bit.
Forget the ones from most Aus car shops, get 'em from China, 5X as bright, and cheaper!

The dials are still Red when you turn them off (I think  ) so looks like I can't do it unless i can remove the sleeve off the backs of the dials which sounds like a pain

Man can you please check the date of posts before you reply.
This one is nearly 2 years old, and long forgotten.
Those bulbs have the correct plug on them, but $68 man you can find them for ALOT cheaper.

but $68 man you can find them for ALOT cheaper.:stoopid: My last set cost me about $8 delivered, and give more than enough light, evenly dispersed. In fact, have to run the dimmer at around 50% for it to be comfortable.
For that price I'd be expecting the very latest experimental Cree's or something!

yeah these ones look heaps different to normal t10 LEDs, like they'd be heaps brighter/whiter or something.
