Well ive just picked up a new car :D but it didnt come with a manual so i have to hit up mmal for one. The lady on the phone needed to know what series it was so i could be given the correct manual.
Its got a digital odo + digital climate control how ever the KM to empty reading is above the AC vents. Isnt it on the dash in the series 2's? I dont have a power aerial (or its broken...).
Any help is appreciated and thanked.

If its 2001 it's definitely a series 1. series 2 didn't start until july 2002.
Also i dont see how you can have a digital odo but have the km to empty above the ac vents?

Yup im pretty sure they are 17's
Vin: 6MMTJ9S421T026398 if thats any use in determining which series
Im positive it had a digital odo (or maybe im imagining it from all of the photos ive looked at of magnas lately, it definately has digital climate control though, i remember trying to figure it out on the test drive) but ill know for sure when i pick it up tommorow morning.
Is it possible in a series 2 to make that centre display show something more than a clock?

I thought digital odo meant series 2. Or is this a 1.5?
You have a series 1.5
They put all of that gear in before labelling them SII to try and grab some more money off the consumer.
If you have all that, you should have an electric aerial.

Well that mystery is solved, turned out i was imagining the digital odo, it has an analogue odo with climate control and 17" rims. That would make it a series 1 yes?

Standard series 1 mags are only 16's, show us a pic, they could be aftermarket rims :).

Pretty sure the tyres on them mean they are 17's, will get all the details off them tommorow when i pick it up but when i had a look at it my uncle + mate said the tyres would be expensive because they are 17's.

I've got a series 1 VR-X - it's got non-climate control air-conditioning, an analogue odometer, and a fixed radio antenna. However, it's got the 17" VR-X rims.
It looks like Mitsubishi made another update to the VR-X (and Sports) prior to the introduction of climate/digital odo. According to this article (http://www.drive.com.au/editorial/ArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleID=2426) (dated May 2001), they made a few changes - including the 17" rims, and having black brake callipers/door handles.

To be honest i cant keep up with what mitsubishi did to the TJ. It was so f'ed up. Series 1, 1.5 and 2, except not all 1.5's had the same sh!t and now even some 1's had 1.5 stuff. Confused as hell now lol.

There was also just before the 1.5 (or TJ MY02) a series 1 VR-X with the stock 17" alloys added on. Best way to know for sure is if you have digital climate control (screen display instead of knobs) or not. If you have digital it'll be a "TJ MYO2 VR-X". If you have the analog knobs air con (no climate control) it'll be a "TJ VR-X + 17" alloys".

I knew very little about Magnas when I got my VR-X (barely knew the difference between a TH and a TJ). Needless to say, the whole what-series-VR-X thing confused the hell out of me :S

My TJII has a build date of july 02 and has digital dash and no series 2 badge but i've rang mitsubishi and they've confirmed it is indeed a series 2. If you give them a call they'll be able to tell you :).

Yes, but not everyone has a VIN database on their computer handy to look it up :P.
That's why mits (or any dealer) can look it up for you :).
