Just a simple question to throw in. The Marshall "heavy duty" battery in my sports just died after only 2 years. Not good enough. Does anyone swear by a particular brand of battery as Im going to get a new one tomorrow. Cheers.

Century batteries are pretty good. Also excide top of the range is ok as well. These 2 will cost you about $100-$130, but will last 3-4 years plus.

look for something with a CCA of 480 or higher, i know at supercheap the bosch GOLD range has a 3 year warrenty and they are 480CCA, theres another brand out there, im not sure where you can buy it from though, but the CCA of these batterys is like 580CCA....so all i can tell you is shop around and find something with a high CAA which will last you YEARS

Century is rated at 450 CCA, what is CCA anyway?

I usually buy Exide; Bosch is ok too (probably comes from same factory).

Century is good brand too but hate them being yellow - looks naff.
Black hides the dirt better.

There meant for like daewoo lanos' not magnas:S
hope thats lasts more then a year...

Ive had a 560CCA Battery in the magna for 4 years before the regulator went....well i thought it was the battery so i changed that but found out it was the regulator, so it was 4 years old and still going strong

Get one with one of those green LED indicator thingies. K-Mart have them, I think it was about $115 but I was lucky enough to get it on their 15% off day. It stays green if your battery is over half way charged. I'm amazed at how often this is not the case - a 20 minute drive to and from work four times a week is not enough to keep it green. It's a good prompt to go and take the car for a long drive to keep the battery nicely charged.

just remember, that green light is only indicating a single cell...

Get NRMA insurance (or equivilent) and one of their batteries, 24 hour replacement.

Exide,Century,Marshall, The secret is to change it every 3 years with out fail. Thats if it does not let you down before the 3 years is up..

I'm BACK!!! Been gone awhile..The BOND Ultimate silvercalcium battery is best, sealed, 500 cca and 11 plate, 'power eye' battery check indicator, and only $115, in Victoria. Should be available in other states. Check 'em out!

Oddessy dry cell batteries are supposed to be good, but probably overkill unless you have requirements like a f-- off big sound system to run or extensive engine work which means you can no longer fit a full size battery in your engine bay.

I'm using a bosch "gold" but have only had it for about 2 months so I can't comment on it's lifespan, but as someone else said...... come with a 3 year warranty so they can't be that bad.

Optima, Optima, Optima...thats my two cents...bit pricey and could be considered overkill though.

I've got a Mitsubishi Diamond battery which they put in when I bought the car 3 years ago last April and it's still going strong.

Werd.

I got a D34 yellowtop.. best battery around.
It will last you 10 years... you do the maths. Dry cell so you can run them flat hundreds of times with no damage.

Lots of power (no headlight dim at all with a 3kw rms system)
Can mount em upside down too.

Diamonds come from same factory as Bosch & Exide, me suspect... work good.

If you're serious about getting best value for your battery $, go research and
learn how to read the date code on the battery. Most manufacturers
will stamp the battery exactly when its made so you know how old it is.

Read about it on the Exide & Century guidebooks.

A "new" battery that has sat on the shelf for 2 yrs... will usually last about as
long as its brother that came off the line the same day & installed immediately
and has been worked hard since new.
