I am still trying to figure out the fuel guage in my TE Magna.. it's not terribly hard to understand but more just different from my last car - like all cars. I have read some posts where people stated that they managed to fill 65 litres as I did the other night and one spirited go around a roundabout told me I should fill 'er up pronto! So I did. I know that the capacity of the tank is said to be 71 litres. What I would like to know is if this refers to usable capacity or not? My thoughts are of course no.

i have put 65 litres in the car before i dont think ive got much more than that but i try not to run out

i do think the actual tank capacity is 71 litres usable and then you have the lines etc which i asume shouldnt contain more than a few litres if that.

aparently my fuel guage is different from the stock exec guage being vrx , it seems to come on very soon asin it reads empty when i have like 100kms and probably 20 litres left which anoys me because the trip computer completely shuts down (kms till empty) i really wish they could make it more acurate how many kms i can do because last time i got to ballarat from adelaide and thought i had a 100kms but couldnt risk it :) so i filled up and found i could only put in 56 litres.

So in theory i should be able to get to melb on a full tank maybe ill try it out one day ( i do have RAA plus membership -unlimted callouts- )

its very hard to be done. ive enquired about it. waaaaaaay too much modifications need to be made, and a engineers cert. when you look at the underbody, there is f-k all room under there, so errr.. try, but its a tricky one!

trust me, ive tried for one!!

I think you'll find it's 72l. Silly me has put 70 in before. Once over 60 it's not hard to have it surge or stuff up when cornering hard.

FYSH the fuel gauge on my TJ ADVANCE seems to behave just like yours so i do not think it is a VRX thing...

My sports got the same thing as well and old solara too, light comes up around 55-52 Litres and then it becomes constant at around 55 liters on wards. and trip computer just dies. and its scary specially if you are on longer run. but its good in a sense that it keeps you consious so you can fill up from the nearest gas statiion specailly on the long routes.

bugga i really hate stopping on long trips i just wanna get there. when we do a driver swap over i usualy pull up on the side of the rd so that whoever is with me has to hurry the fsk up so we go.

if i can get to melb without having to put any fuel in it would be great and i should be able to do it. i might take up booya on that idea tho buy a small 10litre. after about 2 hours the average fuel economy per 100k is fantastic sitting on about 140km/h.

At least the "Litres Used" trip computer function keeps working when the distance to empty bit stops. I never run off the distance to empty any more. As soon as the fuel used hits 60L I fill her up and reset the counter.

All tj magnas hold 71 litresof fuel. the range to empty will drop out once the orange w fuel light has been on for 3 minutes, range to empty will either drop out at 100km or 50 km depending on how it is set. Cant remember ow to change it but it is possible. as i have done it on my VRX

Thanks for the info guys. I'm now getting a real feel for the car. I get around 500 - 550 Km out around 65 L with a lot of stop start driving.

BTW I don't think you should have any trouble reaching Melbounre on one tank. My dad used to do it quite regularly - in a different car mind you, and a Camira at that. We would fill up around Para Hills, drive to my grandparents place in Glen Waverly (including about 3 or 4 laps of the city while my dad would try to figure out how the hell he was supposed to get to his childhood home) and still have enough petrol to get to the shops and back.
