Owners of 2nd gen magnas know there is a spot to put a baby seat in the middle of the back seat.

Is it possible to get a second or third anchor point for a child seat put in? Does it need to be engineered?

No I'm not after a dickie seat, just the anchor point for a child's seat/capsule.

Does anyone know who does such modifications, or is it legal to do it yourself?

Aren't there 3 anchor points in the parcel shelf? My 89 Camry had 3!

Apparently each state has their own laws regarding the installation of anchor points and you should contact your local roads authority. It may be a simple case of buying an approved fitting kit to DIY.:)

According to the manual, there are three anchor points on the back shelf, with plastic covers.
As far as I am aware, you do not need to get anything certified if the mounting points are already there, it's just a "screw-and-go" thing. I think you only need certification if you want to add new mounting points, ie. make new holes to screw the anchors into.

Yeah, I might have to defect to driving a camry - they seem to have plenty of attachment points. They have cup holders too don't they? Mine (TS ) has one attachment point in the centre.

Thanks for your replies. I'll make some more local enquiries.

Bummer about there only being 1 anchor point. I have a wagon and it's got three points.
Try calling the SA equivalent of VicRoads/RTA or RACV. they should be able to point you in the right direction.

There are kits you can buy to install anchor points (or at least there used to be). Better check with the authorities first tho.

We've had anchor points installed in a Japanese imported Tarago and recently a custom front middle seat installed by a place that does dickie seats - they may be a good place for you to try. They tend to know most of the rules.

Good luck.

Pretty sure the structural points should be there, maybe it's like some of the rear speakers, everything's there waiting, you just need to cut the lining to find it?
Maybe try looking up in the boot, might be able to see three nuts. I've got a wagon, so I can't say for sure, but the service manual definitely seems to say they should be there somewhere. If I get to the local wreckers in the next few days l'll check out a few sedans.

Mine has three mounting points. One in the centre and one on each side behind the speakers.

You're making me all jealous! I'll just look in the boot now.

Edit:

I can see what you mean about the plastic caps. The one in the centre is very prominent and is ready to fix a child seat. On each side left and right - further back toward the boot are two round plastic pieces. Pop them up and you have a hole with a thread in it for the attachment bolt. These usually come with the child seat. Underneath looking in the boot this hole has the same construction and bracing as the middle attachment point.

I also see the cut-outs for the rear speakers.

I have learnt two things tonight! Can I go home now?
