Anyone with a TE or TF 3.0 V6 have big mileage on their car, like has anyone got above 300,000km? And what sort of problems have they had and at what amount of km etc?
I'm thinkin of keepin my TF til it hits 300k. So far got 208k on it, doesnt use any oil or blow smoke yet which is a surprise, it's made it thru my lead foot years, only thing wrong now after major service just done is the power steering pump seal is leaking so I need a new pump. But it's no major.
Let's see who has the biggest km on their car in a 3rd gen on AMC!!

As long as it's looked after, 350,000/400,000 isn't out of the picture

I have 271000 on mine and it uses bugger all oil (maybe 200ml between services). The car has had only 1 clutch replaced (250000), starter motor and struts. It goes as well now as when i first got it and i reckon i will see 400000 out of the engine easily. Regular servicing and not neglecting your car will make all the difference.

Exactly. Even tho mine uses no oil yet, I still do oil changes every 5,000. It pays off well and truly. Worked with a mate who got a TF as well, he didn't really look after it, had all the problems in the world up until he sold it with only 170k's. I told him that 6500rpm isn't a cruising engine speed either. lol.

I agree 5000km is the best interval for basic oil/filter service etc
Mitsu and their 15,000  dont know what they were thinking

well my 97TF is a long way off from 300,000kms ( just ticked over 73,000km ) and so far so good. by the sounds of things i'll have my car for years to come. however, because i do heaps of short trips, bout 80% of the time, the engine wear will probably be a lot more than it should be for a 73,000km's.
but if you can stuff 80 bottles of NOS into it, then i'm not worried at all :)

You guys with the big K's on board, do you still have the original water pump fitted. The reason I ask is that Im just about to get the dreaded 100,000k service, and I dont know whether to get the water pump changed as a precaution while theyre doing the timing belt. I wont bother if they last 200,000+ k's. A bit off topic, but a mate of mines got an old mazda 121 (early 80's I think) and its done 275,000kms and still going strong. Everything on his engine is original,(apart from plugs and dizzy cap) including the radiator hoses! Blows no smoke or uses no oil, engine has no tappet noise and is smoooth as. God bless the japanese.

With most cars you treat them right and service them when you're suppose to they should last a very long time.

My 97 TE Advance has just hit the 300 mark, and I was considering moving on, but try selling a Magna with that many k's on the clock for anything over a grand. The highest trade in value I was offered was $1200. So it looks like I'll be keeping it for a lot longer, and then to the wreckers when it'd dead.
It's good to hear that I might have a few more years out of the poor old thing.

I'm having the water pump replaced on the KE this weekend. It only has 90,000k's on it and my old lady drives like a nanny. Always had regular services (7,500 as per book) and has always had radiator flushed every year.
The water pump just started to leak coolant 2 weeks ago. Not in a major way but just left a puddle when you stopped overnight.
Getting the belt and plugs done at the same time.

She has done 320K. I dont drive like grandma. Believe it or not, original EVERYTHING! except little stuff like Battery, air/oil plugs etc. I think she is on her second timing belt and alt/fan belts. I service it every 5000K. Check fluids (including tranny) regularly and she has never ever missed a beat or dropped 1 drop of anything. However, old mate across the road bought a TE and put a new motor in it at 120,000.... I think it all comes down to service regaularity.

Mitsu and their 15,000  dont know what they were thinking
I'll tell you what they were thinking.......
They were thinking "Falcons and Commodores have 10,000km scheduled service intervals, if we make ours 15,000 we'll get heaps more fleet sales". We all know most fleet cars don't do more than a couple of years or 40 - 60,000km's before being sent to the auctions. Fleet companies don't care if the service schedule is going to knock the potential life of the cars original engine down from 400,000km's to 250,000km's because they will have off loaded the car long before then.
I've always understood it also has a lot to do with how the car is driven during the "run in" period, not to mention the fact that some engines are just freaks.

mine has done about 137000km, but i did a service at 120000km when i got it and another one at 130000km, everything is still running fine, goes like a B!TCH IN HEAT! but i think the previous owner did a service every 15000km (as per log book) but they took care of it apparently (so they claimed when i spoke to them on the phone), only thing i have changed so far is the engine pipe, it made noises at about 123000km.

Goes unbelievably good.
Replaced water pump at 280,000ks and radiator at same time.
Other then that its a bloody tuff motor.
