I'm pretty new to manual transmission Magnas so I haven't really got much knowledge on the topic. Pretty much all I know is that my car presently has a standard clutch, which probably last long with the twins installed :bowrofl: .
I'm interested to hear from ppl out there who've upgraded the clutch in their Magna;
What clutch are you running?
Was it modified in anyway?
Have you had any dramas with it?
Approx how much power are you pushing thru it?

I've got a non-dampened low inertia 5 puck ceramic disc with an Exedy Racing heavy duty coverplate & aluminium flywheel. Awesome on the track, ***** around town, shudders when u take off at low rpm and u need to rev match every downshift. Makes the engine rev much more freely and even gives it a slightly different note. It also rules out most people from driving it as generally they just keep stalling it when trying to take off. I've heard that the sprung centre ceramics are a lot more streetable.
Cummins.

Thanks for the reply Daniel!!!
I'm trying to avoid a button clutch at all costs, and I'm more than happy to replace the clutch more frequently if thats what it means. Sounds like the "sprung center ceramic" you mentioned is what David described as being fitted to Adams car, but I think they are still a "button" type clutch.
Initially the car will be daily driven with a conservative tune, I don't see myself getting involved in track work until sometime in the new year.

I've got an Xtreme cushioned button clutch, with about a 35% heavier pressure plate. Standard flywheel. I'm putting out 207kW ATW at last count.
Drivability with this clutch is absolutely street friendly. You can still slip it a little when driving away from a stop so there's no shuddering. But it grips tight when you need it.
It definately has a quicker take-up than the normal clutch which took a little learning.
There is one major down-side though, and that is that when driving slowly away from a stop, like sitting in a traffic jam, or navigating a drive-thru or parking lot, you can set up a resonnant hum as the clutch starts to engage. It's often loud and people stop and stare lol. This never happens if you take off spiritedly.
Depending on who you talk to at Xtreme they either respond with "stop driving like a girl", or "gee that shouldn't be happening". I'm hoping to "fix" it at some point

Thats a similar unit to what im currently using. Brendan have you spoken to brad fox at xtreme (adelaide clutch service) about your clutch issues?
He has now offered to build me a extra heavy duty sprung six button ceramic clutch with a 1400kg clamp force pressure plate for my next engine. Its not a overally cheap setup though.

No, I don't think I've spoken to a Brad. I think I spoke to a guy called Simon, and one other guy whose name I forget, but not Brad.
Might give it a try.

hey bb, from memory youre in brisbane...i used to sell daiken(exedy) in the shop i used to manage. im sure you can call them direct and have a chat to them. they will have more than one clutch to suit your application & can customize aclutch to suit. u wont be able to buy from them but at least pick their brains. then just find a retailer that sell exedy & purchase through them. pm me if you cant find the phone no. as i think ive still got my whole supplier list here somewhere.

Hi Mate. Yep, I'm in Brisbane, thanks for the suggestion, but for the record I've ordered a cushioned ceramic button clutch thru a guy Megatron (qld rep) recommended. I'm sure I'll be happy with it.

Iv got on my cars
Exedy Button + extreme lighten flyhweel : 1040 fitted
HKS Twin with matching flywheel : 2100 fitted
Both nice to drive but the button is gribby and is on or off and eats your driveline great for track racing but not the best for going to the shops, the twin plate is all class with no faults but costs alot when problems occur im rebuilding mine atm
For you mate iv consider a twin plate or stronger heavy duty clutch because you are keeping the stock gear box and also twin plates hold power better
